Self Made Beauty. Hamilton IPL & waxing

So it’s been brought to my attention that I haven’t properly introduced myself 😅

Kia ora everyone, ko Shann tōku ingoa. I’m proudly from Gisborne, but Hamilton has been home for the past 16 years.

I’m number 3 of 6 siblings, plus 1 whāngai brother, a Mum to 3 amazing kids and a Narni to 2 beautiful moko 🤍

My beauty journey began in 2016 when I was unexpectedly poached from my reception job to help open a new beauty salon in Hamilton East. Apparently my customer service skills were “a steal” and the rest I could learn on the job 😂 As a regular wax & IPL girly myself, the thought of free treatments definitely helped convince me 😅

At 37, I started my new adventure in beauty. The salon put me through certifications in IPL laser, fractional laser and electronic body contouring. Seeing how much treatments could improve people’s confidence really inspired me, so I decided to further my training through Elite Beauty & Spa and complete my NZQA degree in Beauty Therapy — which opened so many more doors for me.

I’ve worked in 3 salons over the years, but in 2021 I took the leap, went solo and created Self Made Beauty — a little space built to help people feel confident within themselves 🤍

Now nearly 5 years later, I still have “selfies” who’ve been with me since that very first salon back in 2016, and honestly that means the world to me.

I’ll always be grateful for the love and support from my kids, their Dad, my family, friends and of course my clients throughout this journey.

My biggest goal has always been for clients to leave feeling happy, confident and comfortable — never afraid of the treatment. Even if that means I have to talk non-stop through a 2-hour full body wax to keep them distracted 😂 iykyk.

At the end of the day, I genuinely love what I do. I love the connections I build with my clients, and according to my Google reviews… well, they speak for themselves 🫶

How did turning 4 come so fast 🥰🥹 seriously would not be here or enjoying my mahi/work without the loyalty of my SELFIES 🫶 Thank you all (old & new) for your continued support, trust & friendships.
