Like a number of our other artists, Sam Mathers (Sam Mathers Artist) felt a bit defeated when our Easter event never went ahead. He had built up an amazing collection of new work which he landed up giving to a gallery in Auckland. He then struggled to paint when Covid hit – rudderless, two kids and no daycare, and not knowing what he was painting for. And then something clicked. He’s now building up an amazing new collection of works for October’s RAW and fans will be intrigued to know that some of these incorporate a totally new non-nautical style for Sam. He’s looked back at his usual style and work, and incorporated new elements. In his own words, he has “let loose”! This particular masterpiece was the result of a "20-hour straight" painting stint. We can’t wait to see the rest of his works over Labour Weekend!
