✨ What to Expect During Your Dreadlock Appointment ✨
Thinking about getting dreadlocks? Here’s what you need to know before your appointment! 👇
🔹 Choose Your Style – Decide on your sectioning shape (square, triangle, or diamond) and the thickness of your dreads (pencil-thin, Sharpie-thick, or in between). These choices affect both the look and longevity of your dreads. Stay tuned—I’ll be sharing tips on how to choose the best option for you!
🔹 It Takes Time! – A full head of dreadlocks takes several hours, so bring a movie, snacks, and wear comfy clothes. The wait is long, but trust me—it’s worth it! 🙌
🔹 Pain & Sensitivity – Some people feel slight discomfort, especially if they have a sensitive scalp or lighter hair color (red/blonde). Others find the process relaxing! If you’re worried about sensitivity, bringing Panadol might help.

🌿 How Often Should You Get Dreadlock Maintenance? 🌿

I always recommend getting maintenance every 3 to 4 months—and here’s why!

📌 Waiting Too Long? Your dreads will grow out thin at the roots, and if they go without maintenance for too long, they can become weak and even snap off. The longer you wait, the harder it is to bring them back to a strong, uniform shape.

📌 Too Much Maintenance? Coming in too often can cause friction alopecia, putting unnecessary strain on your scalp and hair follicles. This can lead to hair thinning or even permanent damage over time.

📌 The Sweet Spot? A maintenance session every 3 to 4 months keeps your dreads strong, tidy, and healthy while allowing your scalp time to rest and recover between appointments.

Taking care of your dreads means finding the right balance—not too often, not too far apart! Book your next session in advance to keep your dreads in perfect shape.

✨ The Maturing Process of Dreadlocks ✨

Dreadlocks are a beautiful journey, and just like anything natural, they change and evolve over time. 🌀

It takes about 1-2 years for your dreads to fully mature. During this time, they’ll go through many changes:
- They’ll get thicker and longer as they lock and tighten.
- They might shrink up a bit before they grow long and full.
- The frizz will gradually become tighter and more uniform, but you may still see some texture.

Patience is key—your dreads are transforming, and that’s part of the magic! The first year or two can be the most exciting and sometimes the most unpredictable, but stick with it, and your dreads will settle into their perfect form. 🙌

Trust the process and enjoy the ride! 💚

🌊 Swimming with Dreadlocks – Protecting Your Hair! 🌊

Planning to hit the pool or ocean with your dreads? Here's how to protect them and keep them looking their best:

✅ Wet your dreads with fresh water before swimming– This helps to prevent chlorine and saltwater from soaking into your dreads, which can cause damage and dryness.

✅ Rinse thoroughly after swimming Always rinse your dreads with fresh water right after swimming to wash out chlorine or saltwater, preventing buildup and dryness.

✅ Avoid leaving your dreads wet– Make sure to dry your dreads completely to avoid mildew or odor.

Caring for your dreads while swimming ensures they stay healthy, strong, and looking fresh! 🌊✨

🌀 Washing & Caring for Your New Dreads 🌀
Keeping your dreadlocks clean is important, but less is more when it comes to washing! Here’s the best routine for healthy, long-lasting dreads:
✅ First wash? Wait about three weeks before washing again.
✅ After that? Wash once a week for the first six months.
✅ After six months? You can increase to twice a week—but always make sure they’re fully dry before tying them up or going to bed!
Palm rolling = your best friend! 💯 After every wash, palm roll your dreads when they’re about 50% dry to help them stay neat and lock properly.
Patience and consistency are key—trust the process, and your dreads will reward you! 🙌 Need expert maintenance? Book your session online

🌀 Caring for Your New Dreadlocks – The First Few Weeks 🌀
Your fresh dreads are in—now it’s time to take care of them! Here’s how to keep them looking neat and healthy in the crucial first weeks:
✅ Keep them dry – Avoid washing or getting them wet as much as possible. If they do get wet, palm roll them before they dry to maintain shape! (I’ve made a video showing how—check it out!)
✅ Skip the hair ties – Instead of tying your dreads up, use a headband to avoid weak spots, kinks, or bends.
✅ Protect your dreads at night – A silk or satin pillowcase/bonnet reduces frizz & prevents breakage. (Available for purchase at your appointment!)
✅ Always dry them fully – Never go to bed or wear a hat with damp dreads—this can lead to mildew or mold!
The first few weeks are key to locking in your perfect dreads! Got questions? Drop them below ⬇️ or book your maintenance ✨

They always come back for more 😝😎

Did you get all your dreads created in one day? Or did you have a gradually increase? 🤔😊

Bridget started with 4 lonely dreads, then added another row and now we've added even more! 🤯👍

I can guarantee I'll be maintaining her full head of dreads by the end of the year 😜

How often do you get maintenance?

I'm averaging around every 3-4 months for regrowth maintenance.
