When applying sunscreen, we often just cover the areas that are easy to reach and quick to burn.
The skin on our feet is just as susceptible to the harm of UV radiation as any other part of our bodies, and are often exposed while wearing sandals and jandals over summer for extended periods.
It's easy to forget to take a second to cover those less than obvious spots, so here's your reminder to make sure to lather up that sunscreen on the tops of your feet, and also the soles if you find yourself exposing them to the sun! ๐ฉด๐

Proper toenail care is one of the most effective ways to prevent painful ingrown toenails and keep your feet healthy! ๐ฃ
Hereโs what our podiatrists recommend for safe at-home trimming:
-Trimming the nail, following the line where your nail connects to your skin is best, and usually this is a slight curve.
-Donโt cut nails too short. Leave a thin line of white nail visible, cutting too close can expose sensitive skin and invite infection.
-Smooth sharp edges. Use an emery board or file to gently smooth corners instead of rounding them.
-Trim when nails are dry. This helps prevent tearing or jagged edges (wet nails can bend and split).
-Keep tools clean. Always disinfect your clippers or scissors before and after use. We recommend using a isopropyl alcohol in either liquid or a wipe.
Lastly, wearing properly fitting shoes. Tight shoes or narrow toe boxes can press the nail into the skin, increasing your risk of ingrown nails.
โ ๏ธ Watch for warning signs: pain, redness, swelling, or drainage near the nail edge can signal an infection. Donโt try to fix it yourself; professional treatment from a podiatrist or foot care therapist can prevent complications.

If this is you and you're prone to blisters, remember to do plenty of practice hikes, use appropriate footwear, wear good quality socks, and try out a product such as Hiker's wool to help prevent blisters and skin breaks. ๐ฃ
