Everything included above, but for a deeper reset with a freshly styled cut - perfect if your hair is feeling really dry, overgrown or you’re ready for a proper change.

It was Salem’s 11th birthday yesterday and I almost didn’t post, but then I started thinking about everything we’ve been through together and I felt a bit guilty not to. Social media is so weird isn’t it?

So this one is for 25 year old Laurie.. and the tiny little salon she’s about to open.

You’re standing in that tiny little room, alone, absolutely no idea what’s coming next. You’re hoping it works, but you’re nervous.

What you don’t know yet is that the two of you are about to grow a lot together.

That little salon is about to be so busy you’ll need to move, and then you’ll need to move again. You might think you want to work alone, but you’re wrong (it sucks) and over the next 11 years you’ll employ 27 staff (including the 15 incredible ones working here today).

Hair will take you all over the place - around New Zealand and even to Brazil, Australia, Japan and the Netherlands.

There will be some incredible wins and some really good days.
There will also be some really hard seasons too.
A global pandemic.
Maternity leave.
Postnatal depression.
And plenty of moments where you wonder if you’re doing the right thing.

But the best part will always be the people. You’ll meet thousands of clients. You’ll meet people in the industry from Wellington and all over the world.
Some of your closest friendships will start inside of or because of this salon, and the incredible people you find along the way.

11 years later, you’re both still growing. Still learning. And honestly? You’re still a little nervous about what comes next.

But it’s going pretty well so far.

Sometimes you’re just meant to be a brunette, and this was definitely one of those moments! We took Manaia from a brassy blonde to a rich chocolate brown and the difference is unreal.

When Manaia came in she already had extensions from elsewhere, and the plan was to remove them and install a full head of our own - possibly even adding an extra row for the fullness she was craving. But once we colour matched and installed the new hair, we only needed a ¾ head!

A little out of my comfort zone with such a golden blonde but that’s how Gen likes it and it does look so good on her right?
