One day, a mother shared with me how glad she was to have bought a new computer set for her two children. She said it helped them stay inside the house, no longer roaming the streets or looking for fun elsewhere.
While I understand her desire to protect her children, I gently reminded her that the computer and internet, though often useful, also open the door to an unfiltered world—one full of danger, deception, and moral corruption. The Bible warns us in Proverbs 22:15, “Foolishness is bound in the heart of a child; but the rod of correction shall drive it far from him.”Foolishness doesn’t need the internet to thrive—it already lives in the heart of every child. But access to unguarded technology can amplify that foolishness into sin, addiction, rebellion, and heartbreak.
Allowing children to sit in front of screens all day without parental oversight, spiritual guidance, or consistent discipline is not safety—it’s passivity. And passivity in parenting is not Biblical love; it is neglect in disguise. Love disciplines. Love instructs. Love intervenes.
Three years ago, I had two precious adult friends who attended a weekly Bible study I led. Both confessed deep bo***ge to po*******hy that began in grade school. With tears, they spoke of addiction, shame, and a constant spiritual struggle that they have carried into adulthood. They did not stumble upon those images by accident. They were left alone with devices—without filters, without guidance, and without Biblical correction. What they needed wasn’t just a screen. They needed shepherding. They needed Jesus.
And sadly, this is no longer an isolated case. The number of young ladies—students and even adult women—who come for prayer and counseling, confessing similar struggles, is growing. It is a dangerous misconception that only men wrestle with these kinds of sins. Sin does not discriminate by gender. The enemy seeks to destroy any heart that is left vulnerable and unguarded. That’s why both our sons and our daughters need truth. They need discipline. They need spiritual protection. And most of all, they need to know and walk with Jesus Christ.
Dear parents and guardians, this day, let us not grow passive. Let us not confuse presence with protection. Let us be sober. Let us be vigilant. “Because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour.” (1 Peter 5:8, KJV)
This verse in the picture/post speaks with clarity and urgency about the necessity of timely and loving discipline. The word “chasten” here is not about cruelty, but about correction—training a child in the way of righteousness while there is still a teachable heart and an open window for change. The Bible makes it clear: correction is not an act of harm, but an act of hope and love. It is better to shed a few tears now under discipline than to shed bitter tears later over a life that has gone astray.
Children don’t need more screen time—they need more of the Word of God. They need more prayer, more time with their parents, and more moments soaked in truth and grace. Let us not withhold correction. Let us not be afraid to discipline in love. Let us train up our children in the way they should go—while there is still hope.
