PRESS RELEASE | NBI ARRESTS TWO IN MANILA FOR SELLING UNREGISTERED DRUG

Pasay City, Philippines - On May 13, 2026, the NBI-Dangerous Drugs Division (NBI-DDD) arrested two individuals in Tondo, Manila, for selling unregistered drugs.

The operation stemmed from a reliable informant regarding the alleged sale and distribution of “Tirzepatide,” a drug believed to be unregistered with the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), within the Manila area. The said product is being marketed and offered to individuals with weight-related conditions.

Acting on the information, NBI-DDD agents conducted online surveillance, which revealed several social media pages offering the drug. The NBI-DDD agents posed as clients and communicated with a specific Facebook account offering the drug. The undercover agents purchased the drug through a test-buy, confirming its sale. A certificate issued by the FDA, at the request of the NBI, confirmed that the drug is unregistered.

In response, a buy-bust operation was planned and conducted, resulting in the arrest of the subjects in the act of selling unregistered drugs. The operation also resulted in the seizure of Tirzepatide worth Php 310,000.00. Charges were filed for violations of Section 10 (j) of Republic Act No. 9711 (Food and Drug Administration Act of 2009) in relation to R.A. No. 10175 (Cybercrime Prevention Act of 2012) and R.A. No. 7394 (Consumer Act of the Philippines).

NBI Director Atty. Melvin A. Matibag commended the NBI-DDD agents for their recent successful operation, which resulted in the apprehension of the subjects. He underscored the importance of exercising caution and vigilance when purchasing unregistered drugs, highlighting the potential health hazards and serious safety risks that such substances can cause. Furthermore, he reiterated the NBI’s unwavering commitment to intensifying its efforts in combating the proliferation of unregistered products, emphasizing the agency’s dedication to safeguarding public health and maintaining safety within the community.
