I used to lie awake at night, tossing and turning over what tomorrow might bring.
I would worry about what could happen, what might happen and everything in between.
I would overthink myself to the point of sheer exhaustion, unable to sleep or rest because I couldn’t shut my mind off.
I would spend so much energy on the possibilities of tomorrow that I would have nothing left for today..
Until living that way finally broke me.
Broken into countless pieces from worrying and letting my thoughts get the best of me, I finally realized that I couldn’t keep going this way..
And though it wasn’t easy and it still isn’t, I’ve found a way past all the anxiety of tomorrow’s unknowns.
Truly, I thought back to all the times when the worst things in my life happened..
I was always fine on the other side.
I managed to find a way to overcome, adapt and keep going.
That’s the moment that I finally understood that the stress I was causing myself wasn’t going to change anything and that no matter what, I’d always be okay.
Maybe it wouldn’t be pretty, maybe it wouldn’t always turn out the way I expected, but I could handle anything..
I had proven that to myself time and time again.
I’m not going to say that I don’t overthink anymore because that never truly goes away, but I’ve learned not to let the worry consume me any more.
I had been letting my thoughts control me instead of me being in charge of what I was thinking.
And slowly, as I became okay with letting the future be unknown, I found some peace amidst the storms of life.
My days aren’t always easy and I’ve got plenty of challenges, but at least now, I can keep them in perspective and not let the bad thoughts ruin my days.
It can rain, maybe even pour, but I’ve finally learned to start dancing in the rain..
Strong, proud and free.

I don’t know how to be any other way than the strong, independent person that I am.
I’ve braved the struggles of my life for so long, it’s just become ingrained in my spirit that I can do anything, overcome everything.
I’ve been battling the fires that tried to consume me for as long as I can remember.
But there are those days when the world just comes crashing down all around me and I’m fighting just to keep my head above water.
No matter how I try to say that I’m always fine, I still get tired..
And I truly mean that I need the type of rest that sleep alone can’t cure.
My body gets tired and my soul becomes weary..
And I just need peace and tranquility.
I don’t need much-
Give me five minutes, half an hour..I’ll enjoy every fleeting moment of that stolen time to recharge my fire.

Seeking solace in the quiet times that I scoop up during my days to rest my soul.
I treasure those moments of solitude, for that is what keeps me going..
That and the love of my people, my zest for life and my “never say die” attitude.
I always want to be able to look back over my life, everything I’ve accomplished, the people I’ve loved and the happiness that I’ve created and know that I gave it everything I had.
I left no person unloved, no challenge unconquered and no dream unrealized.
After all, when it’s all said and done,
They may forget what I’ve said or done..but they’ll never forget how I made them feel.
