President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. said on Saturday that 115 Filipino convicts in the United Arab Emirates had been granted royal pardons ahead of Eid'l Fitr, which marks the end of the Islamic holy month of Ramadan.

In a press release, Marcos thanked UAE President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan for his country's ''compassionate act.''

The Department of Foreign Affairs was informed by the UAE Embassy in Manila of the royal pardons on Friday. The UAE had also asked the Philippines for assistance in relaying the names of those pardoned.
