Congrats te ulaniban may BLP ALS learner before.
Ulaniban Laginan, a proud Tagakaulo weaver from Sitio Laginan in Barangay Lutay, Malungon, Sarangani Province, claimed the Best Abaca Ikat Category award for her intricately crafted “Laginan” weave at the 4th Eloisa Hizon Gomez Abaca Weaving Competition.
The event was held during the culminating program of the 15th Likhang HABI Market Fair at Level 5, SPACE, One Ayala, Makati City.
The competition featured three distinct categories: Ikat (dyeing technique used to create distinct patterns), Abaca Craft (handcrafted creations made from pure abaca, not necessarily woven), and Nipis (fine, woven pure abaca).
Alongside the abaca showcase, the fair also hosted the 8th Lourdes Montinola Piña Weaving Competition. It has three categories: Liniwan, Pure Piña, and Natural Fiber Blends with Piña (Seda/Jusi/Cotton/Abaca).
According to HABI: The Philippine Textile Council, these competitions aim to uplift regional weaving traditions and spotlight communities where textile arts remain a vital part of cultural identity.
The 15th Likhang HABI Market Fair ran from October 10-12, 2025.
