Yelling is something many parents try hard to avoid… but in stressful moments, many of us still do it. 💛

Maybe you’ve promised yourself,
“I’m not going to yell today.”

And then…
your child ignores you for the fifth time…
siblings start arguing…
you’re exhausted after work…
and before you know it, your voice gets louder than you wanted.

You’re not alone.

The good news is that our parenting doesn’t have to be perfect to make a difference. Every calm response is a chance to build trust, safety, and connection.

Research suggests that frequent yelling can have lasting effects on children.

📚 It can:
💔 Strain the parent-child relationship
🧠 Trigger a stress response, making it harder for children to think clearly or learn from the moment
😔 Lead to shame, fear, or emotional distance instead of understanding
❤️ Make it harder for children to develop healthy emotional regulation when shouting becomes their model for handling frustration

One idea that has stayed with me is this:

We usually don’t yell because we don’t love our children.

We yell because our own nervous system is overwhelmed.

That doesn’t excuse it—but it reminds us that children don’t just need better behavior.
They also need adults who are learning to regulate themselves.

🌿 Sometimes the most powerful discipline starts with taking one deep breath before saying the next sentence.

Your calm doesn’t mean your child gets away with everything.

It means you’re teaching them how to handle big emotions without hurting the people they love.

💛 If you yelled today, don’t let guilt have the final word.

Repair.
Reconnect.
Try again tomorrow.

That’s how emotionally safe families are built—one small moment at a time.

📖 Much of what inspired this post comes from UnSelfie by Michele Borba, along with research on child development and emotional regulation.

✨ Save this post for the days parenting feels especially hard, and share it with someone who needs the reminder that calm is a skill we can all keep practicing.

What if teaching empathy could start with one simple question? 💛

Children aren’t born knowing how to recognize emotions—their own or someone else’s. They learn through conversations, practice, and caring adults who help them put feelings into words.

That’s why I created these “How Am I?” Emotion Cards.

🌱 Each card includes:
💛 An emotion word and child-friendly definition
💬 A conversation starter on the back to encourage meaningful discussions

These aren’t just flashcards—they’re invitations to connect.

✨ When children build a rich emotion vocabulary, they are more likely to:
🧠 Recognize and name their own feelings (self-awareness)
❤️ Understand how others might be feeling (empathy)
🌈 Express emotions with words instead of behaviors
🌿 Develop healthy self-regulation skills over time
🤝 Build stronger friendships and relationships

Research suggests that when children can accurately identify and label their emotions, they’re better equipped to manage them. After all, it’s much easier to solve a problem when you know what you’re feeling.

You don’t need long lessons.

Sometimes all it takes is one card, one question, and a few minutes of genuine conversation.

Those small moments often become the ones children remember most. 💛

💛 I came across a post from Empowered Moms and Kids by Cheryl Donely, and it really stayed with me.

It made me pause and reflect on my own parenting.

My daughter is now a tween. She’s becoming more independent, spends more time with her friends, and doesn’t seem to need me the way she did when she was little.

✨ And if I’m honest, I’ve slowly found myself pursuing her less.

Not because I love her less, but because I assumed she needed me less.

🌱 Lately, I’ve also been intentionally teaching her to become more responsible. I want her to do more chores, solve more things on her own, and rely less on me for the little things.

And those are important life skills.

❤️ But this post reminded me that while I’m teaching her to become more independent, I never want her to feel like she has to be independent from my love, my presence, or my support.

I want her to know that even as I step back in some ways, I’m still emotionally available.

🤍 I still want to hear about her day.
🤍 I still want to know what she’s thinking.
🤍 I still want to understand how she’s feeling.
🤍 I still want her to know she can always come to me.

Maybe pursuing our children simply looks different as they grow.

🌼 It might mean:
• Asking about the little details of their day.
• Sitting beside them, even when they don’t say much.
• Inviting them to run errands with us.
• Showing up at their activities.
• Saying, over and over,
“I love you. I’m proud of you. I’m here.”

🌈 As children grow, they often ask for less—but that doesn’t always mean they need less.

Sometimes they simply need to know that someone is still choosing them.

🏡 That home is still the safest place to land.

So I made this reminder as much for myself as for anyone else.

✨ Because one day our children may not remember every meal we cooked or every ride we gave them.

But they’ll remember how we made them feel.

💕 Let’s keep pursuing our kids—through every age and every stage.

Love, J

Have you noticed that when your child is very upset or having big emotions, they suddenly stop listening or thinking clearly?

They’re not trying to be difficult. Their brain is simply doing its job to keep them safe. 🧠

One of my favorite ways to explain this to children is the Hand-Brain Model by Dr. Daniel Siegel. It turns a big idea into something they can see right in their own hand.

When children understand what’s happening inside their brain, they begin to:

🧠 Recognize big emotions
💜 Understand why they react the way they do
🌱 Learn healthy ways to calm down
✨ Build emotional awareness that lasts a lifetime

You don’t have to use complicated words. Just a simple conversation like this can help your child feel understood and more in control.

Save this carousel so you can try it together the next time big feelings show up.

Kindness isn’t built in a single lesson. It’s built through the messages children see, hear, practice and what we convey to them every day. 💛

Bullying prevention isn’t only about teaching children what NOT to do. It’s also about helping them become the kind of people who choose empathy, speak up for others, and know their own worth.

That’s why visual reminders matter.

A simple poster on a classroom or bedroom wall can become a conversation starter:

✨ “What would you do if someone was left out?”

✨ “What does kindness look like today?”

✨ “What can you do if someone is being bullied?”

These everyday conversations help children build courage, compassion, and confidence—long before they’re faced with difficult situations.

No poster can stop bullying on its own. But when paired with caring adults and meaningful conversations, it can reinforce the values we hope children carry with them every day.

If these messages resonate with you, I’d love for them to encourage the children in your home or classroom too. 🤍

A child can’t use words they were never taught. ❤️

When children don’t have the language to express what they’re feeling, those emotions often come out through tears, anger, withdrawal, or behavior that adults misunderstand.

That is why we believe emotional literacy should become part of everyday family life.

Not as another lesson.
Not as another subject.
But as simple conversations woven into ordinary moments.

🌿 “What are you feeling right now?”
🌿 “Where do you feel that in your body?”
🌿 “What can help you when you feel this way?”
🌿 “Remember, all your emotions are valid.”

These small conversations may seem ordinary today, but they become the inner voice our children carry into adulthood.

At Emosyon Bibo, we dream of homes and classrooms where emotional intelligence is just as important as reading, writing, and math.

Because children who understand their emotions are more likely to:
🤍 Build healthy relationships
🤍 Handle challenges with resilience
🤍 Ask for help when they need it
🤍 Learn with confidence
🤍 Grow into compassionate adults

That is the heart behind every resource we create.

One conversation.
One poster.
One child at a time. 🌱

Which emotional skill do you wish someone had taught you when you were a child? 💛

💔 We rarely criticize because we want to hurt our children.

Most of us criticize because we care.

We want them to succeed.
We want them to make better choices.
We want to prepare them for the real world.

Our intentions are often good.

But children don’t only hear our intentions.
They experience our words.

If most of what they hear are corrections, comparisons, or reminders of what they did wrong, they may slowly begin to believe that they are never enough.

Over time, constant criticism can turn into shame.

And shame doesn’t inspire growth.

It often creates fear, defensiveness, perfectionism, or the feeling that love must be earned through performance.

This doesn’t mean we should stop correcting our children.

Children need guidance.
They need boundaries.
They need accountability.

But they also need to know that their mistakes are not bigger than their worth.

Instead of only asking,
“What did you do wrong?”

Try asking,
❤️ “What happened?”
❤️ “What can we learn from this?”
❤️ “How can I help you do better next time?”

Correction teaches skills.

Connection gives children the confidence to use those skills.

Let’s raise children who know they can improve without believing they are “not good enough.”

✨ Reflection for parents:
• When was the last time I noticed my child’s effort instead of only their mistakes?
• Does my child hear more encouragement than correction from me?
• How can I guide with both truth and compassion today?

Every interaction is shaping the voice our children will one day use to speak to themselves.

Let’s help make that voice kind. ❤️

🌱 Our children deserve more than academic success. They deserve emotional success too.

If we want children who can learn well, build healthy relationships, solve problems, and bounce back from life’s challenges, we cannot overlook their emotional world.

A child who feels safe, connected, curious, and understood is not only happier. They are also more ready to learn.

Research continues to show that social and emotional skills support:

💛 Better focus and memory
🧠 Stronger problem-solving skills
📚 Better academic achievement
🤝 Healthier friendships and relationships
💪 Greater resilience during difficult times
❤️ Better mental and emotional well-being

This is why Emosyon Bibo exists.

We believe Social and Emotional Learning (SEL) is not an “extra.” It is a foundation. Every child deserves adults who teach them how to understand their feelings, manage big emotions, show empathy, and believe in themselves.

Our mission isn’t simply to create printable resources.

Our mission is to help parents, teachers, and caregivers raise emotionally healthy children, one conversation, one classroom, and one family at a time.

We know we won’t change the world overnight. But if every home begins valuing emotional intelligence as much as reading and math, the next generation will grow up with stronger hearts, healthier minds, and kinder communities.

Thank you for being part of this journey with us. Every share, every conversation, and every small moment of connection matters. ❤️

Because children don’t just need to be smart. They need to know themselves, understand others, and feel emotionally safe enough to thrive.
