Sensory issues"in autism refer to the way many autistic individuals experience and process sensory information differently. This can involve being hypersensitive (over-responsive) or hyposensitive (under-responsive) to things like sound, light, touch, taste, smell, balance, and even internal body awareness (like hunger or pain).
Here are a few examples:
Sound: A person might find everyday noises (like a vacuum or a school bell) overwhelmingly loud or painful.
Touch: They might be extremely sensitive to clothing textures or avoid hugs because it feels too intense.
Light: Bright lights or fluorescent lighting can cause discomfort or even pain.
Smell and Taste: Some smells or flavors might feel too strong, or conversely, they might seek out intense flavors.
Movement: They might love spinning or swinging (seeking sensory input), or they might struggle with balance and coordination.
These sensory differences can affect behavior, focus, and comfort, and often play a big role in how an autistic person interacts with the world.

A clearer way to put it:
Sensitivity to sound or auditory sensitivity refers to how some people experience everyday sounds as overwhelming, painful, or distracting. These can include things like loud music, sirens, vacuum cleaners, or even background chatter.
Itโs part of sensory processing differences, which means the brain processes sensory input (like sound, light, touch) differently than most people.
