Senator Kiko Pangilinan has urged lawmakers to act immediately on the passage of an Anti-Political Dynasty Law, linking the dismantling of entrenched political families to reducing poverty and corruption in the country.

“Kung walang dynasty, walang mahirap. Kung walang dynasty, walang kurap,” Pangilinan said.

Pangilinan also cited a Pulse Asia survey conducted last December, which found that more than half of Filipinos believe a law prohibiting political dynasties could address systemic corruption in government.

He stressed that the bill’s passage is especially timely in light of recent revelations of multi-billion-peso corruption in flood control projects, calling it the right moment to implement reforms that curb the influence of political dynasties.
