Pakistan has reported its first death of 2026 from Crimean-Congo Hemorrhagic Fever in Karachi, as a 17-year-old patient succumbed to the infection after being admitted in critical condition.

According to officials at Sindh Infectious Diseases Hospital & Research Centre, the patient was experiencing severe symptoms, including bleeding, and was placed in intensive care under strict isolation protocols but could not survive.

Medical sources stated the teenager, who worked at a livestock farm, initially presented with high fever and was later diagnosed after testing confirmed the virus. He was transferred for specialized treatment following standard health procedures.

Congo virus is a tick-borne disease that can cause severe hemorrhagic fever and can also spread through contact with infected blood or bodily fluids, posing risks in both livestock and healthcare environments.
