African fauna

It is often said that these flightless birds hide their heads in the sand in case of danger. In fact, no one has ever seen him. From danger, the ostrich most often runs away. It can reach speeds of up to seventy kilometers per hour! He also knows how to hit hard. The legs of an ostrich are so strong that a bird can fight back even a cheetah. Warning: a male ostrich can roar like a lion!

Mandrill is perhaps the most striking representative of mammals. His muzzle is blue and red, his butt too, his skin is olive green, his beard is yellow, and his belly is white. In fact, such a bright color is only found in birds. (Maybe they have mandrills and have considered an idea for their outfit?) But these monkeys live in the rainforests of Central Africa, and there are all bright colors. And of course, the most beautiful and colorful among the mandrills is the leader. it is easy to recognize the boss: whoever has the bluest cheeks is the boss.

Ring-tailed lemur lives exclusively on the island of Madagascar. In families of thirteen to fifteen individuals, matriarchy reigns, that is, mostly females appear in them. They are in charge of all the affairs of the family and firmly hold on to power, while the males, meanwhile, cowardly sit behind the growth of the backs of their warlike ladies. In fights, ring-tailed lemurs often use their striped tail: they grease it with a smelly secret from under their arms and wave it in front of the enemy.

The elephant is the largest land animal on Earth. It can grow four meters and weigh seven tons. Elephant tusks are up to three meters in the wall, and ears - up to two. Large ears help the elephant to regulate body temperature, because they do not know how to sweat. Elephants love to swim. Some even know how to dive: they stick the tip of their trunk out of the water, like a breathing tube, and swim under the water.

Cheetahs are ideal runners over prescribed distances. They have long legs and a slender, elongated body, which makes the felines look like hounds, and at the same time they are champions in running among animals. A cheetah can reach speeds of up to ten dozen per hour! The paws of the champion are decorated with spikes - at least the thick soles and non-retractable claws are very reminiscent of them. Despite the fact that cheetahs are found at the withers of eighty years, scientists do not find them to big cats. Probably because they do not roar like lions and leopards, but meow - just like pets.

Despite the fact that the number of obese people reached a concentration of three meters, the number of vertebrae in it was exactly the same as that of seven. To drink fat, you have to spread your front legs wide and tilt your head towards the water. This is not very convenient. But with his dark purple tongue, he easily picks delicious leaves from the trees - even those that are explained at the very tops. In ancient Rome, the "camel-leopard" was indeed mentioned, because it was believed that they looked like two animals - a camel and a leopard.

The daily routine of the hippopotamus is as follows: sleep, rest, sleep, rest, sleep, rest. And all this without leaving the river or lake. Moreover, the hippo exposes only the tip of the nose, eyes and ears to the surface of the water. Surprisingly, these animals just do not swim very well. But they run great. True, only for short distances. At night, hippopotamuses finally come out on land to find food for themselves, because the grass, in their opinion, is much tastier than aquatic plants.
