Using a bar soap to wash the face is just as good as a face cleanser.

MYTH…
Even if it claims to have moisturising properties or be gentle on the skin, bar soaps have an alkaline pH (sometimes as high as pH11), which disrupts the skin’s normal more acidic pH and can strip the skin from its natural oil and protective barrier. It is most likely for that reason that your skin feels tight when using soap to clean it with. Although you may like the ‘squeaky clean’ feel, the harsh reality is that you have in fact dried and dehydrated your skin. This will in turn make it more vulnerable to the invasion of bacteria due to the protective barrier now being impaired.

GOAL 6 - Schedule that facial

Well there really is no reason to have to justify this goal, only that your skin will thank you.

You might already be ‘acing’ these and can’t fathom that anyone isn’t already doing this, but the fact remains that not everyone prioritises their skin’s health equally. For this reason, we’ve tried to put some relatively easily achievable ones down for you, and even if you only get to changing your habits with 2 of these, you’re already better off than 2024 ! We’re all for celebrating the small victories.

GOAL 5 – use a mask weekly

To mask is a task greatly neglected in at-home regimens but once you discover that you don’t need to only consider one, but can use different masks on different areas of your face or neck according to skin type and the desired end result, there’s an entire new way of looking at masking.

Depending on the type of mask, using a mask regularly can:
▫Give the skin an energy boost to function at optimum level
▫Add additional benefits to the treatment of specific skin conditions
▫Stimulate circulation for improved skin colour
▫Nourish, hydrate and sooth
▫Deep cleanse and purify
▫Refine skin texture

A tip from Brand Trainer Keandra Owgan: After you’ve exfoliated, apply your mask of choice and leave it on for at least 15min while watching your favourite TV show or finishing off your cooking. This way, making the time to do it will never be a restriction.

GOAL 4 – exfoliate regularly

It’s amazing just how many skin concerns are treatable with proper exfoliation!

The natural process whereby the skin gets rid of dead cells and produce new cells, slow down as we age. This means that dead skin cells can build up, leaving the skin with a thick, course, dull and lifeless look.
Regardless of your age, a build-up of dead skin cells can cause congestion, leading to blackheads and pimples, while active ingredients of serums and creams cannot pe*****te effectively, which in turn could leave the skin dehydrated, undertreated and with undesired imperfections.

Are you exfoliating?
If yes, are you doing it twice a week or as often as required for the particular formulation?

If you answered no to any of the above, invest in an exfoliant and depending on the type of exfoliant, aim to exfoliate 2x per week to reap the maximum benefits.
