Two beaches with “ZERO Pollution” status have been identified within the municipality, specifically Santa Rita Sul and Foz do Sizandro – Mar.

It should be noted that the “ZERO Pollution” beach distinction is awarded nationwide by the ZERO association, based on information requested from the Portuguese Environment Agency. For a beach to be classified as “ZERO Pollution,” no microbiological contamination can have been detected in analyses carried out on its bathing waters throughout the three most recent bathing seasons, and during that period the water quality classification must always have been rated as “excellent.”
