When I first arrived to Qatar almost 20 years ago, HH Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani was still the Amir.

For many expatriates like myself, Qatar became much more than a place of work. It became the country where we built our careers, opened businesses, raised our children, found safety and stability.

We watched new cities rise, roads connect, businesses grow. For some of us, Qatar became the longest and most important chapter of our lives.

That is why his passing is not felt only by Qataris. It is also deeply felt by many expatriates who have called Qatar home.

I may be far away today, but Qatar remains close to my heart.

My deepest condolences to HH the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, the Royal Family, the people of Qatar, and everyone who considers Qatar home.

May Allah have mercy on HH the Father Amir Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani and grant him the highest place in Jannah.
