This is a presentation that will try to draw a line between fundamentals and digital orthodontics. The results of a comparative study will also be revealed for the 1st time.

Our third speaker on day 2 is Dr. Carlos Becerra. He will talk about „Digital tools for our orthodontics practice beyond aligners“. Orthodontic treatment involves functional occlusion, aesthetics, periodontal health, and long-term stability along with others aspects of the treatment. Respecting these basic aspects of proper diagnostics is the key for successful orthodontics for full patient satisfaction. Achieving these goals requires precision, investment, and effort. Digital orthodontics, employing specific software, gives us modern tools at hand beyond what is customarily – but imprecisely - believed to be the sphere of aligners. Digital tools will improve the work-flow of our practice during all phases of a treatment process. Our first speaker on day 2 is Dr. Lars Christensen. He will talk about „Is digital orthodontics changing the way we care for our patients?“.
The orthodontic field is buzzing with new digital workflows for orthodontist. It seems as if every day has a new way of providing treatment or a new piece of equipment we must have to stay current. Dr. Christensen will share his experiences with new technologies and discuss his highs and lows of being an early adopter of some of the technologies available in orthodontics. A clinical part will demonstrate some of the routine applications of digital technologies in the practice such as indirect bonding, cast metal appliances and functional appliances. In a philosophical part Dr. Christensen will debate whether these new technologies dictate the treatment we provide. Most solutions are advertised as making orthodontics easy – the argument in this lecture is that digital solutions does not make orthodontics easy. Digital technologies can perhaps improve our control of the orthodontic treatment.

Our fifth speaker on day 1 is Dr. Silvana Allegrini. She will talk about „The new era of Digital Lingual Orthodontics“: Lingual Orthodontics is about fifty years old with many of its facets having undergone a modification since the beginning, e.g. how to bond brackets. Another element that has changed is the attitude of our patients to this particular type of treatment: What do they desire now? I will explain how to facilitate lingual treatment to become more acceptable to our patients, especially how digital technology (3D) can simplify the treatment procedure. The cases I present and discuss demonstrate a combination of specific techniques and the advantages thereof.
