It not always important to be the most beautiful person in the room, its sometimes enough to be the most motivated one 😉

I am currently working on building our new website for my (Joakim Granberg) political party www.realistpartiet.se (New website soon ready and up) and as I go through and migrate our political proposals from 2014 up to today, I feel both proud and nostalgic. It is clear that we have not only grown in terms of voters – we have also grown as an organization. Today, we have far more experience and knowledge of what is actually required to make a real difference for Södertälje. This will also be clearly reflected in our election manifesto ahead of the municipal election on September 13, 2026.

At the same time, it is emotionally striking to revisit my interpellations (Questions) from January 2019, where I was forced to ask questions about why I was subjected to bullying and negative discrimination by the then newly formed governing majority consisting of the Social Democrats (S), the Christian Democrats (KD), the Centre Party (C), and the Green Party (MP).

Brief background:
After the 2018 election, the Social Democratic–led majority, together with KD, C, and MP, chose to actively keep me and the Realist Party out of City Hall. The Social Democratic leader, Boel Godner (S), stated that they wanted to keep Granberg away “as much as possible,” because, according to her, I “only look for faults in the Social Democrats.” This has since been confirmed by individuals who participated in the meeting where this decision was discussed and made.

A decision was taken to introduce a new rule in the remuneration regulations that, in practice, affected only me, Joakim Granberg. Group leaders of parties with two seats were given half remuneration – regardless of their actual workload. With half remuneration, one was also deemed not to need a workplace in City Hall, which in practice meant that I was excluded from both the premises and access to municipal officials.

As a result, the Realist Party was forced to operate from home for four years.

At the time, in addition to the Green Party leadership, KD’s then group leader David Winerdal and the Centre Party leadership also supported the decision. The Centre Party chairman, Leif Åhlin, went so far as to defend the negative discrimination from the speaker’s podium, claiming that the rule was not directed at me personally – despite the fact that, in practice, it affected only me. Today, everyone knows that the rule was created precisely to keep me out, something Åhlin was also aware of, which makes his actions even more appalling.

After the 2022 election, when the Realist Party became the same size as the Liberals (L), the Green Party (MP), and the Centre Party (C), the rule was abolished. At that point, it could no longer be applied to a single individual. The story sounds unbelievable – but it happened, and unfortunately, it is true.

This is why it is not surprising that the Realist Party is working toward a new political leadership that excludes the Social Democrats and the Centre Party as long as the same leadership remains. It can also be noted that the Christian Democrats today have a new and significantly more pleasant local party leadership.

And as Robert Gustafsson once said:
“I’m not bitter.” 😉
