Most people leave a medical or aesthetic consultation without asking what they really wanted to know.

Here is a framework of questions that apply to any treatment decision — whether medical or aesthetic.

1. What is the evidence base for this?
2. What are realistic outcomes — and what is not realistic?
3. What are the risks, and how common are they?
4. What happens if I don’t do this?
5. Are there lifestyle or non-invasive alternatives?
6. How will we know if it’s working?

A good doctor will welcome these questions. They are not confrontational — they are the basis of informed consent.

Swipe through for what each question means and why it matters.

This is general guidance on informed medical decision-making, not advice specific to any treatment or clinic.

Two people can weigh exactly the same — and be in completely different states of health.

The scale measures mass. It doesn’t measure:
- Muscle vs fat percentage
- Visceral fat (the fat around your internal organs — clinically significant but invisible)
- Insulin resistance
- Inflammatory markers
- Metabolic health

In preventive medicine, the markers that matter more for long-term risk include waist circumference, fasting insulin, HbA1c, blood pressure, triglycerides, and HDL. These give
a far more accurate picture than weight alone.

The goal isn’t weight loss. It’s metabolic health — which, for most people, naturally improves body composition over time through the right interventions.

This is general health education. For personalised guidance, please speak with your doctor.

Note: individual circumstances vary. Metabolic health assessment should be done in consultation with a qualified clinician.

Your annual health screening is a starting point — not necessarily the full picture.

Here are 5 categories of assessment worth discussing with your doctor if you’re in your 40s and want to understand your health more thoroughly:

1. Cardiovascular risk beyond basic cholesterol (ApoB, hsCRP)
2. Bone density (DEXA scan — particularly relevant for women)
3. Hormonal panel if you have symptoms (FSH, oestradiol, AMH)
4. Metabolic health markers (fasting insulin, HbA1c, thyroid panel)
5. Cancer screenings appropriate for your age and risk profile

Swipe for the detail on each.

This is general health education — what’s appropriate for any individual depends on their health history and symptoms. Always speak with your own doctor.

Mosquito bites after a run at Botanic Gardens sounded harmless… until the itching started.

These bites were unbelievably itchy — the kind that makes you want to scratch non-stop.

Here’s what actually helps calm them down:

• Steroid cream to reduce inflammation
• Antihistamines to control the histamine reaction
• Ice to settle the swelling
• And once the itch improves, laser can help reduce the marks that mosquito bites sometimes leave behind

Mosquito bites itch because your body releases histamine in response to the bite. That immune reaction causes the swelling, redness and the urge to scratch.

Hot tip:
The more you scratch, the higher the chance of post-inflammatory pigmentation, which is why managing the inflammation early matters.

How do you do your evening runs without getting bitten?

P.S. we sprayed mozzies and flea repellant prior to the run

Today I’m celebrating a small milestone — completing my Graduate Diploma in Mental Health (GDMH). 🧠✨

As a doctor, I’ve always believed that health isn’t just about the body — it’s about the mind too. Stress, burnout, anxiety, sleep issues… these are things so many people quietly struggle with, and they affect everything from our relationships to our physical health.

That’s why I wanted to deepen my understanding of mental health and psychological wellbeing, so I can play a small part in supporting patients more holistically.

And yes… this means more studying, more exams, and more coffee than I’d like to admit. ☕📚 But absolutely worth it.

At .medical.aesthetic , we strongly believe that true wellness includes mental wellbeing. Aesthetic medicine, longevity, and mental health are all connected — because feeling good and living well starts from within.

Thank you to everyone who has supported me through this journey. Onwards to helping people look good, feel good, and live well.

Up to 80% of visible facial ageing is attributed to UV exposure. And yet sunscreen remains one of the most misunderstood steps in any skincare routine.

Here are four common myths — and what the evidence actually says.

☀️Myth 1: SPF in your foundation is enough. (It isn’t — application amount matters.)
☀️Myth 2: You don’t need it on cloudy days. (UVA passes through clouds and glass.)
☀️Myth 3: SPF 50 is much stronger than SPF 30. (SPF 30 blocks 97%, SPF 50 blocks 98%.)
☀️Myth 4: Sunscreen causes breakouts. (Mineral formulations are an option for sensitive or acne-prone skin.)

The single most evidence-backed anti-ageing intervention available is a broad-spectrum SPF 30+, applied daily, consistently.

This is general health education. For specific skin concerns, speak with a doctor or dermatologist.
