Healing Powers of Far Infrared Rays as Traced in Qi Gong
Qi Gong therapy is being used for over 3000 years in China. As has been proven in scientific researches, the Energy emitted by Qi Gong contains Far Infrared of 8-50 micron. Therefore, during a Qi Gong therapy session, the Qi Gong therapist’s hands emitting Far Infrared Rays heal the patients with these Rays.
What is Far Infrared?
We will start with the sun. Sun light can be categorized into visible and invisible light. As the visible light passes through a prism it is refracted into a visible color spectrum of red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo, and violet – the wavelengths decreasing from red to violet and beyond, and increasing from red to Infrared and beyond.

The invisible to human eyes light waves, beyond visible red light, constitutes Infrared light. The Infrared light has wavelengths ranging from 0.76 to 1000 microns. And, in particular, the light with wavelengths ranging from 4 to 400 micron is known as Far Infrared - FIR. Within the FIR, the light ray with 90% of the wavelengths ranging from 6 to 14 micron is known by scientists as Light of Life (Growth Ray) - as the light within this wavelength helps both the plants and the animals to grow.
Human body is mainly made up of water and proteins, besides nutrients such as calcium, iron, sodium and other elements. Far Infrared Ray of wavelength 5-30 microns is able to produce energy. As has been proven scientifically, human body is able to absorb Far Infrared light of 5-30 microns. This type of Far Infrared is able to increase human energy and create warmth in the body. It produces resonance with the body and provides healing power.

So, what are the benefits of FIR to human body?

1. Activate water molecule and increase body’s oxygenation. Human body contains approximately 70% of water. The water content in blood is even at higher ratio of 80%. If blood does not contain enough oxygen, water molecule in blood becomes 4 hydrogen molecules and 1 oxygen molecule. And, that would turn into “Lazy Water” - unable to pass through the cells. Far Infrared is able to create resonance with the water molecule, becoming 2 hydrogen and 1 oxygen - turning into a “healthy water” molecule. It will increase the oxygenation of the body and activate the body cells and enhance mental fitness. It also enhances immune system and, slows down the aging process.

2. Improve circulation. Water molecule is able to move freely between cells, and through resonance it turns into energy, increasing the temperature below the epidermis, enhancing blood flow and, enlarging capillaries. The bigger capillaries lessen the pressure on our heart. The function of capillary is to provide oxygen and nutrients to over 60 trillion of human cells and transfer waste out of our body, as a result of the metabolism. Malfunctioning circulation system would cause many diseases; high blood pressure, cardiovascular diseases, lumps, arthritis, numbness and coldness in arms and legs, etc. The total length of an adult’s capillaries could circumvent earth 3 times. The capillaries are also known as second heart and play vitally important role in the body.

3. Increase Metabolism. If circulation is improved, waste from the metabolism will be able to be discharged from the body quickly, reducing burden on liver and kidney. These wastes contain heavy metal that cause cancer, lactic acid that increase fatigue and aging, fatty acids and fat beneath the skin, uranium ions that cause high blood pressure, and uric acid that causes aches.

4. Stabilize acidity of the body. Far Infrared is able to cleanse blood, improve skin condition, and prevent arthritis that caused by excess uric acid. It stabilizes the acidity in body, increases the immune system.

5. Moderate high and low blood pressure. Most high blood pressure patients encounter shoulder pain, headache, insomnia, blurry vision, tinnitus, nausea, etc. Whereas, most low blood pressure victims are weak and nervous, easily get tired, loss of appetite, coldness in arms and legs, dizziness etc. High blood pressure and low blood pressure are two opposite illness. But experiments show that the Far Infrared therapy can improve blood condition, increase circulation, and able to adjust blood pressure in both conditions and cure both high blood pressure as well as low blood pressure.

6. Treatment for Diabetes. If secretion of Insulin is insufficient Glucose won’t be utilized fully, causing sugar to accumulate in the blood. Over the time, urine would contain sugar - condition known as diabetes. In other words, diabetes is the direct result of an abnormal metabolism. Nevertheless, with the help of Far Infrared therapy, healthy metabolism can be established, helping heal the damaged cells that produce insulin. This in turn helps cure diabetes.

7. Prevent cancer and improve cancer treatment. Cancer cells are very weak against high temperature. Far infrared Rays’ penetrability into the cancer cells and the heat generated therein, damages the cancer cells, without damaging the surrounding healthy tissue cells. Gland cancer cell would die at 38 oC. And 59% of tumor would die at 43oC. Therefore, Far Infrared is effective in controlling the spread of cancer cells; prevent caner and improving cancer treatment. It even can cure diseases that remain incurable for years.

8. Arthritis and backbone related diseases. These 2 ailments are symptomatic with unbearable and miserable pain and inflammation. FIR can improve blood circulation, and get rid of blood clot in different parts of the body. It also activates cells, reduces inflammations and pains, and regains a healthy body.

9. Body slimming. Excessive water, salt and fat would be discharged from body along with sweat - of particular interest is the case with fat, which dissolves in water more readily at 40 oC and, more likely to be discharged from the body, shaping a slim & healthy body. During a 20 – 30 minute session of sauna, the sweat produced is equivalent to running for 10,000 meters. It’s incomparable with other short term sports. Dr Chui Qian Wei in Shanghai, China founded the FIR therapy in 1976. He uncovered that FIR can heal wound from coldness. And it spread to Japan in 1977, led by Japan’s Yamazaki. Dr. Tse-Hao Ko is the founder of Bio-medical Carbon Tech and a distinguished professor of the Department of Material Science and Engineering at Taiwan’s Feng Chia University. He was a fellow at Massachusetts Institute of Technology, the convener for the government science research budget in textile field of National Science Council of Taiwan, and the evaluator and convener for the Technology Development Program of Taiwan’s Ministry of Economic Affairs. He is the co-editor of five carbon and fiber materials magazines published by the Chinese Academy of Sciences of People’s Republic of China and in South Korea and India, and the representative in Taiwan for the Asian Association of Carbon Groups.

Dr. Ko has thirty years of research experiences in the field of carbon materials. Since the developments of carbon fibers products in rackets and aircraft’s structure and vehicle’s brake pad in earlier years, to the developments and productions of activated carbon fibers, and, until recently, the developments and applications of wound dressing, carbon electrode in secondary lithium battery, super-capacitor and gas diffusion layer in fuel cell and with catalyst, he has published more than one hundred SCI journals and received more than thirty patents. Because of the contributions in research of carbon materials, Dr. Ko has received Taiwan’s National Science Council Technology Transfers Award in both 2004 and 2008. In 1997, the “PAN-based Activated Carbon Fibers,” developed by Dr. Ko, was evaluated as the world best key material for nuclear-chemical protection clothes by Karcher of Germany and registered as “KoTHmex,” which was came from Dr. Ko’s name.

Furthermore, the results of Dr. Ko’s “Activated Carbon Fibers” development was highly valued and praised by Taiwan’s National Science Council which stated such material can be applied on masks that are used to against the SARS. In 2007, Dr. Ko’s “Anti-bacterial Activated Carbon Fiber Materials” was being reported as 100 the most innovated universities of world on applications of their developments in Technology Transfer Works published by Association of University Technology Managers, AUTM. Therefore, it is clear that Dr. Ko’s developments in carbon materials are recognized worldwide.

The shortage of crude oil and global climate change cause the increase of fuel prices. The development of fuel cell, which is a replacement of crude oil, has attracted attentions. However, the supplies of gas diffusion layer (GDL) materials are dominated by a few companies. Fortunately, Dr. Ko’s fuel cell gas diffusion layer production technology can replace fuel cell and has received several patents from the United States, Japan, Germany and many other countries. It is our belief that such technology has broader applications in a near future.

Because of the difficulties in medical care due to various wound infections, diabetes mellitus wounds and pressure ulcers, Dr. Ko began to focus on developing anti-bacterial wound dressing made by medical-grade activated carbon fibers (Bio-medical Carbon) and wishes to bring a better wound care to those who are needed and make a contribution in wound care for all people. He has received patents in this regard from many countries including the United States, United Kingdom, France, Canada, Australia, Singapore and etc., and applied for patent in other eighteen countries. The excellent results from anti-bacterial activated carbon wound dressing to wound care are proven by many documents. We have started the processes of applying for the clearances from the FDA and CE. Currently we have received FDA class 1, CE, Canada and Taiwan Class 2 certificates. Now, the wound dressing is available to those in needed.

BCT產品發明人--現任逢甲大學材料系特聘教授的柯澤豪博士，曾任美國MIT研究員、行政院國科會政府科技預算紡織領域召集人、經濟部科專計畫審查委員及召集人等職務。目前是中國科學院，韓國，印度所出版有關碳材料與纖維材料雜誌的副編輯及編委，也是亞洲碳素學會的台灣代表。

柯博士在碳材料領域裡擁有30年的研究經驗，由早期研發應用於球拍及飛機結構與煞車盤之碳纖維製品，到活性碳纖維布研製，至近日的傷口敷料、二次鋰電池中碳電極、超級電容、燃料電池中氣體擴散層以及載觸媒之氣體擴散層材料研製與應用開發等，目前已發表上百篇SCI學術論文，並擁有30項以上專利。由於在碳材料研究的貢獻，柯教授分別於2004及2008年分別獲得國科會傑出技術轉移貢獻獎；1997年，柯博士研發的「丙烯睛系活性碳纖維布」，更被德國Karcher公司評定為全世界品質最好的核生化防護衣之關鍵性材料，並註冊產品品牌為KoTHmex (柯教授英文名)。

除此之外，柯教授「活性碳纖維布」的研發成果也受到國科會高度重視與讚許，表示得以應用於防治SARS口罩； 2007年美國大學技術經理人協會(Association of University Technology Managers, AUTM) 出版的〈技術移轉使世界更美好〉（Technology Transfer Works），也將柯教授的「抗菌活性碳纖維材料」專利納入全世界一百所最具創新能力之大學在實際運用其研發成果的介紹報導中，可知柯教授在碳材研究的成就已廣受國內外各界的肯定。
目前因石化燃料來源逐漸短缺及氣候變遷，導致燃料價格高漲，而燃料電池既為替代燃料之一，其發展開始受到各方注意。但目前燃料電池的「氣體擴散層材料」卻因幾乎完全被少數廠商所掌握，不易取得。所幸，柯教授的燃料電池氣體擴散層製造技術可取代燃料電池之功用，目前亦已取得美、日、德等多國專利，相信將來能有更廣泛的利用。

現在因為各種傷口感染、糖尿病傷口與褥瘡等的醫療照護產生種種困難，柯教授開始將重心放在開發醫療級活性碳纖維(Bio-medical Carbon)所製造的抗菌活性碳傷口敷料，期望能對各個深受病痛困擾的人帶來更好的醫療照護，幫助於全人類的傷口護理與治療。此方面已取得美、英、法、加、澳、新加坡等多國專利，另有十八個專利於各國審查中。由於抗菌活性碳傷口敷料對傷口治療之功效顯著，已有許多實證資料以茲證明，產品已經取得美國FDA class 1, 歐盟CE,加拿大,台灣等國二級認證，正式提供給更多需要的人，造福回饋社會人群。
