Keeping Our Roots Alive

My daughter came to Senegal when she was just two years old. Growing up in a French-speaking country means she naturally learns French every day. However, as her parent, I have made it my mission to ensure she also speaks Igbo—our beautiful mother tongue.

Every day at home, we learn, speak, and practice Igbo together. Language is more than words; it is our identity, our history, and the bridge that connects our children to their ancestors. When a child knows their native language, they carry their culture with pride wherever they go.

No matter where life takes us, our roots should never be forgotten. As the Igbo say, "Asụsụ bụ ndụ omenala"—Language is the life of a culture. I am raising my children to embrace the world while staying deeply connected to who they are.

If you don't train your child properly please don't bring them to my house.
