Wellness
Wellness is a positive approach to life and health that maximizes an individual’s potential. Wellness encompasses a “whole” person: physically, emotionally, and psychologically. A personal wellness lifestyle is associated with good physical health, emotional stability, improved personal relationships, and increased career satisfaction.
Social wellness is a measure of an individual’s contribution to the common welfare of the community. Social wellness emphasizes interdependence with others, making friends and forming meaningful relationships. Socially well individuals have happy, satisfying and stable relationships with others and feel connected to their communities.
Physical wellness is a measure of cardiovascular fitness and strength, and behaviors that help one to prevent or detect early illnesses. Physical wellness is also a measure of the degree to which one chooses nourishing and balanced foods. Exercise, nutrition and safety encourage not only freedom from illness but also feelings of vitality, energy and enthusiasm.
Intellectual wellness is a measure of the degree to which one engages in creative, stimulating mental activities. An intellectually well person uses the resources available to expand his/her knowledge in order to improve skills and expand the potential for sharing with others. The benefits of intellectual wellness include improved job performance, better problem solving, more knowledge and a better chance at success.
Occupational wellness is a measure of the satisfaction one gains from one’s work and the level of enrichment one’s work brings. Satisfaction with work is related to individual attitudes about work, a sense of direction and goals, and a feeling of achievement.
Emotional wellness is a measure of the degree of awareness and acceptance one has of one’s feelings, including the extent to which one feels positive and enthusiastic about one’s self and life. Emotional wellness reflects the capacity to appropriately control one’s feelings and related behaviors, including the realistic assessment of one’s limitations, and the capacity to cope with stress.
What is Massage Therapy?
Massage therapy is a general term for health and healing practices involving touch and movement. It is a profession in which the practitioner applies manual techniques, and may apply adjunctive therapies, with the intention of positively affecting the health and well-being of the client.
What to Expect the First Visit
You will arrive and be greeted by our receptionist. At this point you will be asked to fill out a short health history intake. When your therapist meets you, he or she will take you to the treatment room where the two of you will discuss your session needs, concerns, and questions.
Your therapist will then guide you through what to wear and how to get onto the treatment table. As far as draping goes, there are several options. Shorts and gowns are provided, you may bring your own shorts and top or a bathing suit, or you may use the sheets and blanket provided. Whatever you choose to wear should leave you with a feeling of maximum comfort while being treated by someone you have not met before. Often, new customers start out using shorts and gowns and convert to sheets when they are more comfortable. Others continue on with the shorts/gown draping. After guiding you through your draping options, the therapist will leave the room so that you may undress in comfort.
How to Get the Most from Your Massage
Don’t eat just before a massage session. Your body should have time to digest your meal first.
Be on time. It is quite difficult to relax if you arrive in a rushed state.
Try to be open-minded and receptive to the massage therapist and session.
Let the massage therapist know your expectations and reasons for the massage.
If you have a preference, communicate with the therapist if you like to talk or prefer to remain silent during your massage.
Provide feedback to the massage therapist advising on the amount of pressure you desire, report any discomfort or distractions from the technique, music, temperature, etc.
Breathing properly helps us relax, so try to breathe normally.
Relax.
Drink plenty of water after your massage, this helps to flush away any toxins released from your soft tissue.
Take your time when getting up from a massage. Try to take in how you feel, the effects of the session, and make sure you are not dizzy or lightheaded.
Therapeutic effects of massage are cumulative. If you are getting a massage to help with chronic pain or tension, be open and prepared to schedule follow up massage sessions.
You can treat yourselves with various massage types and packages prepared by the professional team of the Crystal Park 2 spa center.
Aloe Vera, shirodhara, mandara, Hawaii stone, Bali massage, blue sea salt rite, Bali lulur ritual, Bali reflex, jimbara, shiatsu, lomi lomi, Thai Thai foot ...

One of the latest fads in skin care involves tanks of live fish, and it's stirring up quite a controversy. Garra rufa, or doctor fish as they're known to most of the world, have been used in spas across Europe and Asia for quite some time, but they weren't introduced to the United States until 2008. That's when a Virginia salon owner brought the fish home from a China spa and started offering doctor fish pedicures [source: Shishkin].
The fish originate in Turkey, where they've been used for more than 100 years to treat serious skin conditions such as psoriasis. The water temperatures there are high, which prevents many nutrients from surviving. As a result, doctor fish are basically starving and seem to have an insatiable appetite for dead skin [source: Atkins]. The popularity of doctor fish pedicures in the United States probably has as much to do with novelty as anything else. At the very least it's a creative way to exfoliate, and it seems to work.
However, if you think the whole thing sounds a little fishy, you're not alone. At least 14 state cosmetology boards agree with you. That's how many have banned the procedure on grounds that it's unsanitary, and more are likely to follow. The Virginia salon, however, remains unaffected for the time being. Virginia is not one of the fourteen states that have banned the use of doctor fish in spas.
If you're not quite sure how a doctor fish pedicure works, keep reading to find out.
