Please READ!!!! As estheticians it is important to know what you should and SHOULDNT extract!!!
I do not extract severe inflamed acne as it can lead to acne scarring and pie/pih (red and brown marks)
I see so many estheticians extracting things they shouldn’t be extracting and it truly causes more issues than it solves.
Idk if it’s because of the lack of education around acne in our industry or because they don’t have self control -
If it’s the latter: it’s not your face and it’s not appropriate for you to go extraction crazy to the detriment of your client. I say this with love because I cannot tell you how many clients have come to me TRAUMATIZED from previous estheticians going extraction crazy on their skin.
9/10 times it will go away on its own by using good homecare products for acne and with in clinic treatments such as chemical peels or lasers.
If it’s a large cyst or nodule, you can refer out to a local dermatologist for a cortisone shot
But plz LEAVE IT ALONE!!
This also goes for my beautiful clients and followers who pick their skin at home, please don’t pick at your blemishes even the ones I listed on this photo as “extract”
without proper technique and sanitation you are going to cause more problems and scar your skin or spread bacteria.

WHAT IS DOUBLE CLEANSING?

Double cleansing is basically and quite simply the method of cleansing your face TWICE: first with an oil or balm cleanser (like our vitamin veil cleanser), then with a water-based cleanser (like our lipid cleanser or salicylic cleanser).

Have you ever gotten to the toner step and see excess dirt on your cotton pad? Well, if your cleansing step was effectively done, this should not have happened. Double cleansing may be the solution! The benefit of double cleansing is that the balm / oil will break down your make up, get rid of excess sebum, your SPF, the dirt and pollution accumulated throughout the day. It should leave your skin feeling moisturized and not stripped. The water based cleanser can sometimes be harsher on the skin. It should also address your skin type or concern ( hydrate, exfoliate, treat acne, etc. ) but is an essential part of the double cleansing method.

Please note that it is always crucial to use double cleansing products that work for your skin type. Washing your skin is good but over washing can have the contrary effect and lead to breakouts, irritation, or clogging pores. I personally feel it is way more important to double cleanse at night ( when you actually have dirt and/or make up to wash off ) than in the morning. You don’t want to strip your skin from its natural oils.

* Double cleansing is NOT using a cleansing balm or oil twice. Double cleansing implies you should absolutely use a water based cleanser as the last step :)

*Double cleansing is not for everyone and can be appropriate for certain type of skin. For example, if you have oily skin, you might find that your water-based cleanser does wash off the dirt and excess sebum on your skin as effectively as you’d like.

I get it, because l've been there. Trust me when I say I understand how mentally debilitating acne can be.

Yes! I have acne-prone skin. I've been asked, "Then where's the acne?" Well, I do get some small breakouts here and there, based on hormonal changes, diet etc but for the most part, my skin has not returned to persistent, chronic acne because I have the right knowledge and tools to manage it.
The first onset of experiencing acne was not as a teenager, but well into my 20's. Being an esthetician does not mean you are immune to acne struggles.

While dry skin and dehydrated skin may tend to feel the same, they are far from it!

When your skin is dehydrated, it is more easily irritated, ages faster, prone to breakouts and can even lead to an uneven or discoloured tone. By keeping it hydrated, this allows your skin to strengthen and repair its barrier functions. Not only that but by doing so, you can minimise the signs of ageing which can lead to a smoother more even complexion.

Always use SPF 🧴

Every. Single. Day. This includes cloudy, winter days! When your skin is exposed to UV rays without protection, the rays can damage and even kill skin cells. This can cause dryness and skin pigmentation. When the outermost layer of your skin (stratum corneum) is damaged by UV exposure it thickens and becomes dehydrated leading to rough, flaky skin.

Avoid harsh cleanser and serums.

Avoid excessive alcohol and caffeine consumption!!!

Light daily SPF that doesn't feel, smell or look anything like a sunscreen...
SPF is a staple in all good skin care routines, not only to prevent nasty things like skin cancers, but to prevent skin ailments we treat. Prevention is the biggest key to a youthful looking complexion.
My recommendation is to always use a clean SPF that has over 30+ ... My fave SPF is a 37SPF perfect for that Caribbean sun!
