In practice, ETFs and ETNs are very similar. Both are designed to track an underlying asset, both often have lower expense ratios than actively managed mutual funds, and both trade on the major exchanges just like stocks.

Exchange-traded funds (ETFs) have gained ground on mutual funds with their often-lower fee structure and easier-to-understand stock-like price action. But ETFs have a not-so-well-known cousin—the exchange-traded note (ETN). ETNs are something that many retail investors may not know about. It's time to shed some light on the ETN and decide if this product has a place in your portfolio.

Wynn Resorts, Limited (WYNN) stock ended a tumultuous 2018 last month, highlighted by the sudden departure of founder and long-time CEO Steve Wynn in reaction to -driven sexual abuse allegations. Large Macau exposure undermined buying interest at well, dumping the stock to a two-year low in December. Accumulation took a massive hit during that period, dropping to the lowest low since January 2016.

The decline into December 2018 landed on the 200-month exponential moving average (EMA) and a rising lows trendline going back to 2009, raising the odds for a long-term bottom. The bounce into February 2019 has reached resistance at the April 2017 failed breakout above the 2014 high at $28.75, but the monthly stochastics oscillator is still ticking higher in a buy cycle that hasn't reached the overbought level. This conflict predicts two-sided action and a range-bound tape into the foreseeable future.

Intuit stock has carved an exceptionally bullish long-term price history, rising more than 1,200% since the 2008 market crash. It has just wrapped up the third consolidative period in the past decade, raising the odds that the nascent bull run will carry for months or years and reach well above $300. Along with a modest forward dividend yield, it's hard to find a security offering stronger year-to-year returns.

Intuit Inc. (INTU) shares rose nearly 7% to an all-time high at $251 on Friday after the financial software company company beat fiscal second quarter profit and revenue estimates. Intuit reaffirmed third quarter and full-year guidance even though the Internal Revenue Service disclosed that e-file returns dropped sharply over 2018 filings through the first week of February, with new tax legislation and a partial government shutdown undermining typical consumer behavior.
