Babylonians believed that eclipses were the Gods’ way of expressing anger, if the moon appeared in front of the sun, they would literally murder their king. In order to escape this, the king would crown a puppet king and queen days before the eclipse, and kill them instead.

A Polynesian man named Tupaia drew an incredibly accurate map for Captain Cook, but it was misunderstood to be badly made and unusable. The map puzzled people for centuries until some researchers finally figured out how to use it correctly.

Henry Ford bought an area of Brazilian rainforest the size of Connecticut to build 'Fordlandia', the greatest rubber plantation known to man, where alcohol, women, and football were banned. It produced almost no rubber, immediately descended into rioting and disease, and was abandoned.
