The Urban Decay Naked Petite Heat Eyeshadow Palette ($29) is a new travel-friendly eyeshadow palette that is a sequel to the Urban Decay Naked Heat Palette ($54) that launched last year. It has the similar warm, fiery-hot color scheme with tones of warm brown, oranges and red/plum. The eyeshadow shades are new, and are not repeated shades from previous palettes. All of the shadows have a matte finish, except for the one highlight shade, which has a hint of natural shimmer.
The six (6) eyeshadow shades are:
Inhale (cream demi-matte)
Vibrate (soft n**e matte)
Hot Spell (terra-cotta matte)
Wild Thing (scorched-orange matte)
Heist (rich cayenne matte)
Strike (rich reddish-brown matte)
I really like the color scheme of the Petite Heat Palette. I don’t own many shadows in the orange spectrum other than the Anastasia Modern Renaissance Palette, but it’s actually a color that I really like wearing. I think these orange-red shades are becoming more trendy lately – I’m seeing colors like this in a lot of palettes in recent launches.
Granted there are six shades, so the eyeshadow looks you can create with this aren’t endless, but you can really get a few great looks with this (that will likely look a bit similar). I’ve been using this frequently over the past couple of weeks, and Strike is probably my favorite color. Some days I use it smudged on my lash line with nothing else but a little eyeliner and the purplish undertones bring out the green in my hazel eyes.
The color palette is flattering on all eye colors and skin tones. If you do a quick search in Google and type in “orange eyeshadow looks”, you’ll see how beautiful it can be! It’s also a shade that makes blue eyes look even more strikingly blue.
What sets this apart from other palettes is that it’s compact for travel – whether it be bringing it with you in your vacation bag, your handbag for touch-ups or your weekend bag to your partner’s house. It’s small, thin, and doesn’t take up much space.
Also, the formula of these shadows is amazing. If you’re familiar with the Urban Decay Naked Basics palettes (now on clearance for $19), this palette is similar in quality of shadows. They are silky soft to the touch and are buttery smooth. The pigmentation is excellent across the board. Because of the softness of the shadows, they are powdery and the colors blend out really nice on the skin. I experienced a little fall-out during application that brushed away easily with a powder brush.

Do you need this palette? It all depends on how practical these colors are for you. I like using colors like this frequently, so I know that it’s a palette I will get tons of use from. I also think it’s very affordable; $29 for a palette of six shadows is a great value. If you don’t anything like this in your collection (such as ABH Modern Renaissance or Tarte Toasted Palette), it might be a great addition. But, if you already have palettes that contain similar colors, you may not need it.

Urban Decay Backtalk Vice Lipstick ($18) is a creamy, medium-toned pinky mauve with a satin finish. It’s fairly neutral in undertone. Once applied, it appears more cool-toned (the purple comes out), but not overly so.
I wouldn’t describe it as a bold color, nor would I describe it as a natural/n**e. It’s somewhere in between for me. It’s not a shade I’d grab when wearing minimal makeup (it doesn’t make the “daily-wear” cut), but I’d definitely wear it when I’m rocking some eyeshadow. I think it’s a shade that can pair well with just about every eyeshadow color.
Urban Decay has many different finishes in their Vice lipstick formula that range from sheer and shiny to metallic to matte. Backtalk is a “comfort matte”, which to me, sounds like it’s a comfortable-wearing matte lipstick. When I think of matte, the first word that comes to mind is “dry”, and our lips are already an area that are prone to dryness, so matte lipsticks aren’t always the most comfortable formula to wear. The comfort matte is very creamy with a semi-matte/satin finish. There is a hint of shine, so if you’re looking for a shade with zero shine, take a look at Urban Decay’s “mega matte” formula.
In terms of Backtalk specifically, the formula is really nice. I think the comfort matte’s are my favorite formula in Urban Decay Lipsticks. It’s creamy and doesn’t drag or tug on the lips during application. The color payoff is opaque, and it feels good on the lips. My lips feel soft and velvety, and the product feels lightweight. I don’t find it to be drying. The lasting power is pretty average for a lipstick – Around 4+ hours or so.

Here is Backtalk swatched on my skin in a couple of different lighting situations. You can definitely see that my skin picks up more of the purple tones.
Wearing Urban Decay Backtalk Vice Lipstick
On my lips, Backtalk applied pretty true to color of what you see in the tube. Depending on your skin coloring, it may pull more neutral or cool on you. For reference, I have warm (yellow undertones), light-medium skin (MAC NC30-37 coloring).
What do you think? What is your favorite Urban Decay Vice Lipstick? I’d love to read your feedback in the comment section.
