Discover snowboarding
Probably everyone knows what a snowboard is. But how did this sport come about? How difficult is it to become a snowboarder? Is it expensive? Read about everything a beginner needs to know about snowboarding in our article!
Snowboarding, or snowboarding, is a very popular and spectacular sport, the essence of which is to descend from a slope or mountain on a special board - a snowboard. This sport appeared not so long ago - less than a century ago. How did he manage to become so popular?
The history of snowboarding
The origin of the idea of snowboarding can be attributed to the 1920s. In 1929, an American from Utah named M. J. Burchett created one of the first snowboards. He cut a board of a suitable shape from a piece of plywood and used horse reins and clotheslines to protect his legs.
After that, however, his invention was not remembered for a long time.
The more modern history of snowboarding begins half a century later in the state of Michigan. In 1965, Sherman Po**en, a resident of the town of Muskegon, was looking for a gift for his daughter. His search led him to invent a board, which he named snerfer.
Sherman Po**en, 1968
The Snerfer was a board glued together from two skis, and resembled a skateboard. He didn't have any shoe bindings, but there was a rope tied in front of him to hold on. Later, Po**en perfected the design of the board, after which it became so popular that he sold about a million copies.
In 1979, the first World Championship in snerfing was held. Among its participants was Jake Burton Carpenter, who came up with the idea of installing footholds on the board. Subsequently, Jake Burton made a great contribution to the development of snowboarding. Moreover, he founded the company Burton Snowboards, which became the market leader in the production of snowboards.
In the late 70s, another American enthusiast Dimitri Milovich was busy inventing his own version of the board. He named his invention Winterstick. Milovich's snowboard attracted the attention of the press and became incredibly popular.
In 1982, the first U.S. National Snowboarding Competitions were held. It was during these years that snowboarding was officially recognized as a winter sport. In 1984, the International Snowboard Association (ISA) was established, and a year later the World Cup was held in Australia.
In the 1990s and 2000s, sport won its rightful place on the mountain slopes. It took time for skiers to adopt a new sport at their ski bases, but this decision has long paid off. Many resorts are now opening special snowboard parks where you can learn tricks on snowboarding and skiing. Snowboard competitions of the highest level are held: the Olympic Games, the World Cup, the World Cup and others.
What equipment does a snowboarder need
For the very first ride, almost everything can be rented. If you are determined to do snowboarding, you will need your own equipment.
Snowboarding
Choosing a snowboard is a whole science. It is necessary to take into account many parameters at once: the size of the board, its shape and deflection, material. The choice depends on your height, weight, style and level of riding.
A snowboard board happens:
The universal board is suitable for the classic style of skating, it is recommended for beginners. Such a snowboard should usually be as high as your chin or nose.
The boards also have a different deflection. Main types:
The rocker is suitable for beginners, and the flat can be taken by both beginners and beginners. There is also a hybrid deflection, but it, like the camber, is usually chosen by experienced snowboarders.
Snowboard Boots
No less seriously you need to approach the choice of shoes – and this is a topic for a separate article. The most important factor is the rigidity of the shoes.
Soft shoes are the most comfortable, they retain heat well and at the same time are considered the safest. Such shoes will definitely suit beginners. Hard boots allow you to better control the snowboard, which is important for those who ride at high speed.
Jacket and pants
When buying clothes for skiing, pay attention to three indicators: water resistance, v***r permeability and thermal insulation.
The water resistance of the fabric is measured in mm of water column. Due to the constant contact with snow, jackets for snowboarders and skiers are made with an impregnation of 10,000 mm and higher.
V***r permeability is the ability of a fabric to remove moisture from the body, it is measured in grams per square meter. The average option is suitable here - about 10,000 g /m2.
Thermal insulation is the ability to retain heat at a certain temperature.
According to all three indicators, ski jackets are best suited. To make your choice easier, pay attention to the parameters "recommended temperature" and "limit temperature". For example, in the 900 XTRA WARM WED'ZE model, the temperature of use is 9 degrees, but you can wear it up to -22. However, there is a high risk that at -22 you will freeze. However, if you dress in three layers, this risk is dramatically reduced.
Helmet and mask
At the first fall, many people understand: the helmet not only has to be, it must sit perfectly, not hang out and not put pressure on the head. That's why choosing a helmet on the Internet is not recommended – you need to try it on. If several models fit you, take the one that is easier.
The mask not only protects the face from the sun and snow, but also highlights the smallest irregularities, pits and small details in the snow. Try on the mask together with the helmet – they should not interfere with each other.
Perhaps you were already going to put on a wool sweater, socks and gloves? Not worth. It will be too hot in them, you will sweat and eventually freeze. Buy special thermal underwear, a fleece hoodie and dress in layers, as we have already taught. Take a scarf, socks and gloves, too, special, for snowboarding.
7 reasons why snowboarding is better than Skiing
1. Snowboarding is cool
You can blame it on the influence of public opinion, or you can just call it reality, but anyone will say that snowboarding is cool. Snowboarding is racing on snowy slopes at incredible speed, jumping and stunts. If the public knew how much responsibility and patience it takes to reach a steep level, then there would be no equal to snowboarding.
2. Comfortable shoes
Many people say that snowboard boots are more comfortable than ski boots. This is a controversial issue. But what a snowboarder's boots are definitely superior to ski boots is that you can walk in them without a snowboard. Have you ever seen a snowboarder who can't climb stairs? And the skier?
3. Equipment: smaller and cheaper
Paying for a lift is, of course, ruinous. But the equipment is cheaper. A full ski kit will cost you 25 thousand, while a snowboarder can fit in 15-20. However, it all depends on your preferences and level.
4. Harder to learn, easier to fight
On the first day on a snowboard, you are unlikely to go far. But the progress in snowboarding is more noticeable than in skiing. You will reach a decent level much faster while your fellow skier rides in the same style at the same speed. One day you will just succeed, and you will turn into a good snowboarder.
5. Lots of useful skills
Having mastered skiing, you can apply your skills only by getting on skis. Those who have mastered snowboarding will be able to try their hand at other sports– for example, skateboarding or surfing.
6. No searches
After a big fall, nothing can offend you more than finding your gear. Where are my sticks? And where is the second ski? A snowboarder, having fallen, can continue his journey without wasting time and dignity in search.
7. It's easier to rest
Skiers constantly make fun of snowboarders sitting on the slope and looking at the sky. It's just envy. After all, such luxury is not available to them, skiers. Of course, a skier can also take off his skis and sit in the snow – but then he will spend a lot of time and effort to insert his shoes into the fastenings.
Rules of skiing and snowboarding behavior
So that snowboarding does not end with injury and does not bring unpleasant emotions, follow the basic rules:
Overtaking etiquette
If you decide to overtake the athlete rolling ahead, your duty is to do it without risk to yourself and others. If that means slowing down for you to wait for the best moment– then do it. This one is not "his business" at all - to clear the way for you. You perfectly see the athlete in front, but he does not see you at all.
Responsibility for yourself
Snowboarding is inherently traumatic, but it is in your power to reduce the likelihood of an unpleasant outcome. Riding within your capabilities, controlling your actions and taking all precautions (for example, wearing all the necessary protection), you will protect yourself as much as possible.
Responsibility for others
It is even more important to remember responsibility for others.
If you are riding at the limit of your abilities – for example, too fast - there is a high probability that you will not be able to slow down in time and will knock down another snowboarder. It's irresponsible. Such behavior is the main cause of injuries on the slope.
The ability to brake carefully
Until you learn how to brake properly and accurately, do not drive at high speed! While you are learning, you will fall and lose control - but you do not need to rush headlong down the slope after the first success, if you still do not know how to confidently stop and go around obstacles.
Rules of stops
On the slope, you may have a lot of reasons to stop: you need to fix your clothes or mount, relax, wait for a friend.
Follow the rules:
Don't stop in front of another athlete's nose. Make sure that there is no one behind you. If someone is there, let him pass.
Do not stop in blind spots - after turns or steep descents.
Before continuing after the stop, let everyone who is already driving down the slope pass.
Compliance with borders
It is not by chance that fences are installed on the slopes of ski resorts. It is strictly not recommended to go beyond them! You may find yourself on a dangerous part of the slope and get hurt.
Some resorts have backcountry zones – only very experienced backcountry snowboarders should ride there and only under the supervision of an instructor.

5 reasons to take up football
Football has been and remains one of the most spectacular and favorite sports. The whole world is watching the matches, whether it's a local championship or a world cup. Why not try yourself in this game in between matches?
Football is a fun team sport with a ball, which perfectly trains endurance and gives a good cardio load. Movements in football and the technique of possession of the ball require good physical fitness, the level of which increases with constant training. Football players have well-developed coordination of movements, and their body is always in good shape. And the fact that you spend time with friends or family, while doing sports at the same time, can't help but cheer up!
And now - in order:
1. Football develops endurance
Have you ever thought about how many kilometers football players run in one match? Even if you are not a professional football player, you can count on 10 km per game. A great alternative to boring jogging! Regular football classes – matches, workouts – and the capabilities of your respiratory and cardiovascular systems will increase significantly.
2. Football increases stress tolerance
The pace of the match can be varied, monotony and football are incompatible things! Follow the rhythm of the game - that's your task! However, football is not always a mandatory presence on the field. Sitting on the bench for half a game and waiting for your finest hour is still a test of strength! It is important to adapt to your team, to be on the same wavelength with them. Playing football requires complete dedication, sometimes the only way to catch your breath is the next stop of the game!
3. Football improves physical performance
Football allows you to harmoniously develop the physical capabilities of your body without requiring much effort on yourself. Relax, enjoy the process, and progress will not take long.
Thanks to running with acceleration, you work out your speed, which is one of the key points in this sport. Frequent changes of body position, sudden changes in the direction of movement - all this contributes to the development of a sense of balance. And finally, playing ball without hands is a great dexterity training!
4. Football teaches you to work in a team
4-4-2 and 4-3-3 ... football calls to be on the same wavelength with the team, develops team spirit. A football player respects the tactics of the game, knows how to understand his partners on the field with a half-glance, half-gesture.
This is a sport that teaches that the quality and potential of the team as a whole is more important than individual talents. And during collective training, you can learn a lot from your more experienced comrades.
5. Football is an educational process
Thanks to football, you work out movements, techniques, tactics, learn to think quickly, make decisions and, without noticing it, progress in a technical sense.
Other useful bonuses from football lessons
Football allows you to keep yourself in good shape not only physically, but also emotionally. If you want to feel good - do not skip training!
Running and controlling the ball with your feet is a very effective task to improve coordination.
Running, jumping, kicking will allow your hips and buttocks to become more muscular, and your abs to become more pumped up.
Standing on the gate, you develop reaction and dexterity.
Many movements from the techniques of a football player help to develop proprioception and flexibility.
Football is suitable for everyone regardless of age, gender, social status. Even if you don't plan to play football all the time, use this game as an excuse to have fun with friends, family, colleagues, and we assure you, you will have a great time!
