Is sauerkraut harmful or useful? Who should definitely not eat it
Sauerkraut can be beneficial, or it can be harmful
Sauerkraut is a favorite and popular product in autumn and winter. It has unique health benefits, it contains many vitamins and minerals. But, unfortunately, not everyone can eat it.

What are the benefits of sauerkraut and who should definitely not eat it, RBC-Ukraine (Styler project) together with ZOE specialists found out.

Benefits of sauerkraut
Such cabbage consists of two ingredients - fresh cabbage and salt. It is finely chopped, placed in a container and covered with salt. After the fermentation process, many natural bacteria are formed in such cabbage.

Such cabbage is very useful for the health of the heart, bones, immunity, it reduces inflammation, the risk of cancer and even helps to cope with anxiety.

Sauerkraut is rich in fiber, vitamins A, B, C and K, minerals and probiotics. Studies show that regular consumption of sauerkraut helps to normalize intestinal function. 75 g daily is enough to get rid of pain and bloating, normalize stool and improve the intestinal microbiome.

Such cabbage also helps to lower blood pressure, as it is a source of vitamin K2. This vitamin reduces the risk of certain heart diseases and improves the health of the arteries. It is also important for bone health, as it helps calcium.

Some studies show that regular intake of sauerkraut from early childhood (at least 3 servings per week) reduced the risk of developing breast cancer by 72%. Also, the antioxidants and other plant nutrients in kale play an important role in preventing cell damage that can lead to cancer.

In yet another study, scientists found that anxiety-prone people experienced improvements in symptoms when they consumed sauerkraut. However, there is an important caveat: Cabbage contains high levels of tyramine. It may interact with monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOIs), a class of drugs used to treat anxiety and depression. Therefore, you should discuss with your doctor whether you can eat sauerkraut.

The presence of probiotics in sauerkraut can bring benefits in increasing immunity and reducing inflammation. Probiotics in general can alleviate the symptoms of various diseases - from serious infections to colds - and promote faster recovery.

One cup of cabbage contains a lot of vitamin C, which can provide up to 28% of the daily requirement.

Harmfulness and prohibitions of sauerkraut
Although this product is very useful for health, there are still some prohibitions and restrictions on its use.

Histamine intolerance. Sauerkraut is high in histamine, which can cause digestive problems and allergy symptoms in some people. It is possible that eating sauerkraut can cause or worsen these reactions.

Drug interaction. Sauerkraut can contain high levels of tyramine, which can interact dangerously with a class of drugs called MAOIs. If you take MAOIs, talk to your doctor before adding sauerkraut to your diet.

High sodium content. If you are at risk for high blood pressure or follow a low-sodium diet, sauerkraut may not be the best choice for you. One cup contains less than 1,000 milligrams of sodium, so it depends on what else you eat. If in doubt, talk to your doctor.

Stomach problems. People with diseases of the gastrointestinal tract should use such cabbage with special caution: gastritis, ulcers, irritable bowel syndrome, ulcerative colitis, gastroduodenitis.

Kidney failure. Salt content can adversely affect kidney health.

Feeding mothers. A large amount of sauerkraut in the diet of a nursing mother can cause problems with the baby's tummy.

Swelling People with a tendency to edema should use sauerkraut with caution.

Thyroid. People with thyroid diseases should consult a doctor about taking sauerkraut.

Importantly! Try not to consume sauerkraut after 18.00-19.00 and do not exceed the daily norm of 150-200 g.

How much juice can you drink every day without harming your health
Every day, you can consume about 200-300 ml of juice without harm to health - if it is freshly squeezed.

Juices are directly squeezed and reconstituted. Reconstituted ones occupy about 90% of the market, they are made from concentrated juices. In the process of preparation, the liquid evaporates from ordinary juice, the juice is transported to the bottling place and diluted with water, adding flavoring.

After the product has been restored, it is subjected to pasteurization, after which it is packaged in bags. After opening, the juice should be stored only in the refrigerator and used within 1-2 days.

The average sugar content in juices is 10-12%, so people who want to lose weight should avoid this drink.

Thanks to intrusive advertising, most people believe that juice is incredibly healthy. However, you need to remember that the carbohydrates contained in the juice are quickly absorbed into the blood, after which drowsiness occurs. If you drink the juice before going to bed, the excess carbohydrates are immediately deposited into fat. The juice also contains fructose, which can cause fatty liver.

Thus, it is better to consume juice in the first half of the day and treat it like a dessert, a treat.

Doctors remind that grapefruit juice cannot be combined with antibiotics and antifungal agents, as this can lead to a sharp increase in the concentration of the drug in the blood, up to a fatal outcome.
