I, a cadet of a military school, did not really understand such prosaic interests of the citizens of a potential enemy country. The closest and most understandable foreigner to the citizens of the northwestern part of modern Russia, in fact, is a Finn. I first saw Finns in Tallinn in the 1980s, when stern foreigners sailed into the capital of Soviet Estonia for the sole purpose of testing Russian vodka.

Finland is a relatively sparsely populated country with 5.5 million inhabitants, concentrated mainly in the southern and central parts of the country. The Constitution of Finland defines Finnish and Swedish as national languages. At the end of 2018, 87.6% of the population spoke Finnish and 5.2% spoke Swedish. Speaking other languages ​​accounted for 7.1% of the population.
