Purging can happen when you start a new product. Purging occurs when active skincare ingredients accelerate your skin's cell turnover rate. This process rapidly pushes existing, microscopic clogs (underlying oil, bacteria, and dead skin) to the surface all at once, rather than creating new pimples from scratch. The only time to stop using a new product is when the skin is often red, itchy, burning, or peeling, signaling a damaged barrier, and if the pimples become inflamed, linger longer, and may turn into deep, painful cysts vs. clearing up in 4 to 6 weeks (a full skin cycle).
