We're excited and proud to announce that Dr. Williams has passed the California Qualified Medical Evaluator (QME) examination and earned his QME certification.

So what is a QME?
A Qualified Medical Evaluator is a physician authorized by California's Division of Workers' Compensation to perform impartial, independent medical-legal evaluations in workers' compensation cases. When an injured worker and an employer or insurance company disagree about an injury — how severe it is, how much of it is work-related, what permanent impairment remains — a QME steps in as a neutral evaluator to examine the worker and provide an objective, evidence-based opinion that helps resolve the dispute. The emphasis is on neutrality and fairness to both sides.

It's a demanding credential to earn. Beyond the clinical practice requirements, it means obtaining a California chiropractic license, passing a competency exam that covers California workers' compensation law, the relevant statutes and regulations, the body of case law that governs these evaluations, and the AMA Guides to the Evaluation of Permanent Impairment (5th Edition) — the detailed framework used to measure impairment. On top of the exam, there's required coursework in disability evaluation report writing.

A lot of late nights and a deep dive into both medicine and law went into this one.

This certification lets me expand the ways Dr. Williams can serve injured workers and bring careful, impartial evaluations to a system that depends on them.
