In October, that prayer became reality when I was selected to join an incredible group of creatives on a month-long cinematic journey to the Caribbean. 🌴🎬

On the other side of one of the most culturally rich experiences of my life, my heart is full and my purpose feels affirmed. Sweet Nevis— I love you, and I will be back! 💗🇰🇳

Meet Joy — our fierce, focused Scorpio Queen 🖤✨

Joy was one of Bisola’s favorite characters to design because she wears her message proudly. From the “Minty Tee” by our Assistant Costume Designer honoring Harriet Tubman (the real leader of the bad bi***es 😌) to the Diana Ross Sunshine X T-Shirt and bold African-inspired prints, every piece celebrates the diaspora. She represents those of us who carry both the beauty and the struggle of our roots — here in America and back home. Her wardrobe honors the Black women who came before her and the joy they built.

Joy’s makeup vibe is classic but BOLD with that sharp wing that says everything before she does. Her brows were always structured, her base had a satin finish, and always rocked deep burgundy and berry lip tones depending on her mood.

And of course, a Queen needs her crown! When Tiger saw signature Afro Bubble Braids she knew that Joy must be adorned in gold! Her wooden Africa charm remains prevalent while black and gold strands are styled as a statement to each look. ✨

This journey started last year when sent me a DM about an open call for artists whose medium is “on body.” At the time, I was searching for new ways to express myself creatively — and that message felt like divine timing.

2024 wasn’t my year to win, but the team saw something in me and invited me to speak in their lecture series. That moment let me know my journey in this space was just beginning.

Fast forward to summer 2025: the application opened again, and this time, I was ready. 🙌🏾

Her style tells the story of authenticity and accessibility, blending college gear, thrifted gems from , and budget-friendly finds from and . Every piece in her wardrobe reflects where she’s from and where she’s headed. Her layered necklaces and classic door knockers honor the deep influence of Black culture, while the nameplate necklace gifted by her cousin Tami marks a new chapter as she prepares to attend her father’s alma mater.

Koko’s makeup is bold, expressive, and ever-changing, capturing a vibrant fusion of culture, confidence, and color 🎨. Her dewy, radiant skin and graphic liner mirror her Asian-American Gemini duality: soft yet strong, playful yet powerful. Products were proudly sponsored by , with creative touches from and to bring her personality to life.

Koko’s hairstyles are fun, easy and accessory forward! Styles were chosen to show a girl who has learned to style her hair within the sphere of black creativity but understands that her hair performs differently. In step with current trends, a nod to the early 2000’s was made bringing back claw clips and butterflies to compliment her bold and colorful makeup and wardrobe choices.

When I started my journey as an independent hairstylist, the q***r community was the first to embrace my talent. These incredible women trusted me to create looks that made them feel beautiful, confident, and seen. I took on the role of Auntie—offering hair care tips, love, and a space where they could be themselves. In return, they spread the word and helped me grow (and keep the lights on!).

Three years later, I’ve had the honor of watching so many blossom in their transitions—inside and out. My chair has become a safe space for femmes, hims, and thems who might not always feel welcome in traditional salons, and that is something I will always be proud of.

Visibility matters. Representation matters. Safe spaces matter. Today and every day, I celebrate the beauty, resilience, and power of the trans community.
