Three years of her hair journey, and I’m so proud of how far she’s come. We straighten her natural hair once or twice a year for a trim, and she wears braids most of the year. The real key? Consistency, gentle handling, and caring for her hair between styles.

Because her hair tangles easily, I wash it while the protective style is still in. This minimizes detangling and is gentler on her hair and scalp. After washing, I take down one braid at a time, detangle and care for that section, then restyle it individually before moving on to the next braid.

Healthy length is possible for every hair texture with the right techniques. Learn what works for your hair, focus on health, and be patient with the process.

Extensions don’t always have to completely change your look, sometimes they’re simply there to enhance your natural hair.

For this install, we used our Curly Tape Extensions in Dark Blonde + Light Blonde, blending the two shades to complement her natural color while adding fullness, length, and dimension.

Here’s your reminder: just because your natural hair doesn’t match the texture you love doesn’t mean you can’t wear it.

My natural hair is straight and doesn’t match our Exotic Curly texture at all. So instead of letting that stop me from wearing the curls I wanted, I used flexi rods on my leave-out to mimic the curl pattern of the extensions.

And look at that blend. You can barely tell what’s mine and what’s not.

In most cases, if you love a texture, there are ways to manipulate your natural hair to mimic it and create a seamless blend. Flexi rods, perm rods, braids, twists and other styling techniques can completely change how your leave-out blends.

So don’t automatically count out a texture just because it doesn’t look like your natural curl pattern.
