Hairstylists approach hair like people. You get all kinds of experiences and with that you learn how to work w various textures. You can specialize in certain hair types and that is wonderful to find for individuals w that hair type.
While attending beauty school in Alameda, CA, there were several senior clients. I also volunteered in retirement homes. After completing cosmetology school, I volunteered for the American Cancer Society’s-Look Good Feel Good” program where we helped cancer survivors learn to apply wigs and makeup. There wasn’t anything stylish about this but I found the true meaning of how hair styling can make people feel good.🫶🏻
How do you respond to clients when they put themselves down? Do you agree or do you see something they don’t?
Over time we can forget how valuable we are when it comes to making someone feel good in front of a mirror. Clients come for that moment and to agree that their hair is not close to being naturally pretty sets the stage for more distortion of their own appearance.
Mentally you are serving their beauty dysmorphia more than the highlight you are certified for. How you communicate to clients and how your voice cracks or volumes is also part of the delivery.
But also, how do you see yourself if the ideal hair is not one neither you have. How much effort did it take to get there only to feel further from self acceptance? Bc how you talk to yourself can show up when you deliver a service.
Lastly, this client doesn’t say this about her hair.🫶🏻

The grey hair movement is not falling for salon scripts.
This group is largely leaving salons. Not just because they want to stop maintaining color but largely because they know the toxins that linger in this space and applied to their bodies.
As someone that has been hit personally with family professionals and my own health, I would love nothing more than to share what I built into my practice a simple way to low maintenance hair color. This includes people without grey hair so anyone can feel at ease with their appearance by not feeling a time clock ticking as with everything else in life.
Beauty maintenance doesn’t have to feel like a task and it should bring out a better version of you.
Less is more🫶🏻
For easy growth🫶🏻.
Are you still pushing a production of highlights and color to blend grey hair? I like to give the grace to my clients of transitional color.
What does that mean???
The experience of enjoying how their color grows out and washes out is part of the service. You can’t accomplish this w heavy highlights and color bc they become warm and grey hair is not warm, it’s cool.
Not only that but this low light technique for super white hair avoids skin contact. I have incorporated this approach more in my practice vs the need to get close to the root. Avoiding skin contact is valuable bc you can enjoy having good haircolor without color absorption on your scalp.
Less is more🤓

I’m a little mind boggled by the grey hair studies relating to poor nutrition bc I have some full grey hair hotties that have thick hair since their 30’s and should be falling apart based on this concept. We definitely have some great health readings based on hair. Could this be the next fitness challenge for hair?💪🏼 Or are we just gonna rely on folks like me to tweak it a bit?🫡
One of the biggest adjustments I made to my practice was letting go of toners. Yes you heard right…
Toners are used similar to permanent color to achieve a desired color. The difference is a lower peroxide level for deposit only meaning you can only apply color levels darker than you are starting with.
There is a negative talk about brass tones, too warm, or too red when it comes to bleaching hair for blonde looks. It’s become so negative that ethnic women will go lengths to demand blondes that will break their hair and sometimes complain about it after demanding it. For natural blondes it becomes an obsession to avoid strawberry blonde when there is absolutely none or they don’t take proper home care bc it is after all high maintenance.
But the motivating factor was to avoid chemical services w skin contact as much as possible. Here is where I built a skill with high lift placement.
By avoiding toners I no longer pushed high blonde services. This meant watching how fast the first foil lifted so that when it was the right shade for its placement (nape, crown, hairline) I could remove it before applying the last foil. I could get more technical but the overall objective here was to embrace the clients natural pigments she already has. These are true sun-kissed tones she would get if she experienced beach life like a mermaid.
But the best part is that her hair is not compromised as it would be if I completely stripped her hair from her pigments. This means she could still utilize her natural hair if curly or not worry about too much heat styling on a regular basis. This also means less product use, less toxic ingredient exposure, less mental maintenance weighing in over health practices that can benefit you from within.💪🏼

Beauty Minimalism is challenging for beauty professionals.
You think you have to apply all the latest trends asap so you can look like a professional & use it competitively against your colleagues.
Really all you have done is created more maintenance mental weight, fed fast fashion & absorbed toxins only
to debilitate your health & our environment.
Blaming burnout on being booked is denying your ability to listen to your body & seek another course as an “investment”.
There is a reason L’Oréal created a mental wellness YTchannel but yet continue to produce some of the most toxic products to our nervous system.
Beauty should be internally empowering not poisonous. This is why I encourage selective enhancement through beauty minimalism
No need to comment for a free guide. Just try & limit
selling products that are available anywhere else for clients to buy. You selling retail is profitable business
for that brand bc you already purchased it.
I think beauty brands forgot how valuable beauty professionalss are & need to be transparent about their ingredients. They use to rely on us to sell products until they moved to influencers, to retail & now ai only to sell us toxic solutions in plastic bottles that almost never deliver. We put hands on people who trust us and we should feel the same with products we sell.
