Did you know sunflowers are planted to help soak up nuclear radiation? They are not just pretty flowers. Sunflowers are actually good for absorbing toxins, too. Millions were planted after the tsunami destroyed reactors in the Fukushima nuclear power plant in Japan. 🌻

Well isn’t that an interesting fact? What would this world be without bees and honey? 💚🍯

There is a big misconception that sustainability is a game, but that is far from the truth. Sustainability and helping the environment starts with awareness. Your awareness! Everyday we are given messages on how to keep your home cleaner, smelling better and looking better in order to live a better life. Our culture thrives on consumption to the extremes. All of which harm the planet and are toxic to our health. Needless to say, awareness is the name of the game. We have also been hit with a ton of messages about the environment as well. And for most, it’s just one more thing to worry about in an already busy schedule. If you want your children’s kids to have a planet to live and play on, you best be paying attention now. This is not a matter of “if” but a matter of “when.” We are harming our planet at an alarming rate and have done more damage to the planet in 50 years than in its entire existence. It is said that if we continue at the rate we are going, we will not have a planet in approximately 100 years or less. Let that sink in for a minute. All it takes is awareness and little steps every day. A few small changes, like making your own cleaners, can create a huge impact on the environment. One energy efficient toilet can save 330 gallons of water a year. And replacing all of your incandescent lightbulbs with LED lightbulbs keeps over 4 million bulbs out of landfills every year. Very small changes with very big impact. There are many products on the market that will help ween you off of plastic and paper items, too. Washable sandwich bags, reusable produce bags and canvas grocery bags to name a few. There are many ways we can reduce the carbon footprint and it all starts in the home. Small changes can make big impacts, so get involved now while we still have time. 💚♻️

Did you know that ladybugs are named after the Virgin Mary? There are male and female ladybugs, so why are they called, ladies? The lady part of their name refers to the Virgin Mary. During the middle age times in Europe, swarms of aphids were destroying many crops. The farmers prayed to the Virgin Mary for help and it came in the form of ladybugs that devoured the plant eating pests and saved the crops. The grateful farmers named these insects, “Our Lady’s Beetles” which is still endured today. One of the most common European ladybugs is the seven spot ladybug and its seven marks reminded people of the Virgin Mary’s seven sorrows. The Germans even call ladybugs, “Mary’s Beetles.” Ladybugs are also well known around the world to be one of the farmers best friends and best natural and free pest controls. Way to go there, “Ladies!” 🐞

The life cycle of the butterfly holds a spiritual teaching and a little insight for all of us. Birthed from an egg, the butterfly lives it's early life as a caterpillar. It then retreats within the chrysalis or pupa where it undergoes a transformation and finally when it leaves the chrysalis, it is reborn as a beautiful winged butterfly. The magnificent life of the butterfly closely mirrors the process of a human spiritual transformation as we each have the possibility to be reborn by going within. By retreating from the world into our inner being, surrounding ourselves in cocoons of prayer, meditation and spiritual books, we're ready at some point to emerge. Awakened and ready to fly, we're transformed and reborn into an entirely new way of being. In addition to how they live their miraculous life, butterflies don't live long. They usually only live for a few weeks at the longest, which offers even more guidance for us. Guidance that life is short. Even for humanity, time moves quickly and so the butterfly with its extremely short life, reminds us to live life to the fullest and enjoy the here and now, always. 🦋

Did you know that honeybees are the only bees that die after they sting? If you have a fear for bees, know that all bees are not created equally. Honeybees are not likely to sting out of aggression because the act of stinging causes the stinger to detach from the body which tears open the abdomen and the bee dies. Wasps on the other hand, don’t have the su***de mission effect which is why wasps are known to sting multiple times. Be afraid of bees if you must, but remember, they don’t need us, we need them. So, if you want to eat, “Don’t Kill The Bees!” 🐝

Did you know the average worker bee produces about 1/12th teaspoon of honey in her lifetime? This fact should make you love every single drop of raw honey. It’s easy to understand why it makes so much sense to say, “as busy as a bee.” 🐝
