In July 2009, Heidi was diagnosed with stage 4 endometrial sarcoma, with the most aggressive type of cells. During the next two years, she had 42 days of chemotherapy infusions and three major surgeries. Nevertheless, the relentless cancer kept coming back. After her third surgery, with no more chemotherapy options, she was told to get ready for hospice. Read her healing story here:

We at CWC are so grateful for each other and for all of you. On this day, while some sit down with loved ones to enjoy a meal full of Indigenous American foods and feel grateful for many reasons, we should all take the time to better understand where this tradition came from.

National Day of Mourning is an opportunity to remember and learn about the land we live on and the people who came before us, whose descendants are still fighting to have true history recognized.

🍫 Happy National Chocolate Day!!

Did you know that studies have shown that some types of chocolate may actually be beneficial to your health. Chocolate contains a phytochemical compound called flavonoids found in cocoa beans. A flavonoids is an antioxidant that can prevent or slow damage to cells caused by oxidative stress, in turn possibly acting as a cancer preventative.

The American Cancer Society recommends a high-quality dark chocolate with at least 70% cocoa and without any added ingredients such as caramel, peanut butter, marshmallow, etc. 🤎

Did you know?

• 1 in 8 women in the United States will be diagnosed with breast cancer in their lifetime.

• Breast cancer is the most common cancer in American women, except for skin cancers. It is estimated that in 2021, approximately 30% of all new cancer diagnoses among women will be breast cancer.

• 63% of breast cancer cases are diagnosed at a localized stage (there is no sign that the cancer has spread outside of the breast), for which the 5 year survival rate is 99%.

• Although rare, men get breast cancer too. In 2021, an estimated 2,650 men will be diagnosed with breast cancer in the U.S.

• In recent years, we have seen a gradual reduction in female breast cancer incidence rates among women aged 50 and older. Death rates from breast cancer have been declining since about 1990, in part due to better screening and early detection, increased awareness, and continually improving treatment options.

We work integratively with your physicians to give you the best care possible.

While it can sometimes feel like an endless, exhausting struggle while treating cancer, it’s important to remember to let yourself have those moments of down time and self-care. Slow down and try some of these tips to let your mind and body have a healthy break.
❤️ Be kind to yourself. Give yourself a hug and let go of self-critical thoughts.

❤️ Get some acupuncture treatments. Acupuncture can help relieve many symptoms that occur with cancer therapies.

❤️ Eat a plant based, organic diet. It will help clean your system of unwanted additives and chemicals, so your body can focus on healing.

❤️ Get outside for a few minutes each day. Fresh air and nature have been shown to reduce stress, lower blood pressure, and give your mental health a good boost.

❤️ Meditation can be a wonderful stress reducer and promotes healthy, deep breathing.
