Did you know that there is a vaccine that can decrease the risk of dementia including Alzheimer by up to 30%?

I find this too hard to believe, but recent solid data from the US, Canada, and elsewhere demonstrate that this is the case with the varicella zoster or shingles vaccine.

Now, how are these two linked?

The possible answer is that the zoster virus contributes to dementia or Alzheimer’s by inducing amyloid deposition in the brain and by causing vascular changes in the brain similar to a stroke.

The studies have demonstrated that HZ vaccines were associated with a reduced risk of dementia, particularly with the newer recombinant vaccine Zostrix, which is widely available and very safe

That is yet another reason to vaccinate against a physically painful condition like shingles and a mentally devastating condition like dementia
