💎 Take a look at the people around you. Are they people who encourage and support you? Do they support your decisions to grow your horizons and expand your knowledge? Or do they stand in your way? Do they always have a reason why you shouldn't do something... I'm not talking about anything that is dangerous or unhealthy, but the good things... training on a new technique, investing in yourself in some positive way

I get it because I hear it every day! I just want to do hair. I don't like social media. Will it really help me.

Well, the short answer is Yes, if you do it right (or at lease do it consistently)

So, you say you don't want to "have" to post on social media but you begrudgingly join and post some pictures... and NOW you tell me I have to STAND OUT!

we are picking up from where we left off last week. These deductions are not as straight forward, so please speak with your tax advisor so they can guide you with what makes the most sense for you and your business

If this is your first year with your salon business, then this could be new to you. Take good notes and in 2022 you will be in a better place to track and report

✨ Word of advice: You are running a legitimate, professional business. Reporting your income is required, claiming all your deductions and reducing your tax burden is good business.

Don't forget: At least once per month, set aside some time to get your books in order. Your future self will appreciate not having to "catch up" if you don't 🤦‍🤦‍♂️🤦‍🤦‍♀️

I am not an expert, so I always recommend you talk to someone who is, these are basic guidelines that you can't go wrong with.

because I have found that people who don't tell you where they are located on social media usually forget to add that to their online booking tool (if they even have one)

Yes, it's that dreaded time of year... Tax season

😉 Don't Fret (I love that word, and just had to use it, lol)

🔮 Scroll through the carousel to see a list of deductions you can claim for your business. These are important, because you want to make sure these items are deducted from your taxable earnings. We will touch on more next week in part 2.

✨ Hopefully you have been keeping track of these things throughout the year. If you haven't you will need to track them down.

✨ Depending on how you have been managing your business, all of this should already be part of a tool like QuickBooks, or you may have a bookkeeper who has them. If you don't have those things then you should have been paying for all these through your business bank account and bonus, if you have been using something like Zelle for your weekly payments, it should be as easy as pulling a report.

✨ If you purchase your products through someone like DePasquale Systems or SalonCentric they should be able to help you by pulling a report for all your product purchases. Bonus: They usually will also show how much tax you paid!

✨ Word of advice: You are running a legitimate, professional business. Please track these expenses in some way throughout the year. Even if it is only through a spreadsheet (google sheets is free). A tool like QuickBooks can connect to your bank account and you would categorize your expenses and income, or maybe you have a bookkeeper or accountant.

It is a reminder to look for the good, be kind, and always help where you can

When you do, life is so filled with so much joy and happiness, because helping people does that for us. Today, take a moment and smile at someone, tell them you like their hair or they have a beautiful smile, or maybe pay for someone's coffee in line behind you

Reach out to that friend or family member you haven't spoken to recently and just let them know you care

It's a new year, a great time to look at your social media profile/bio (in this case, I am specifically talking about Instagram)

When someone links over to your account, this is the first thing they will see after having found one of your posts, stories, a video or reels that made them want to check you out in the first place.

Make sure your profile can answer these at least these two questions... What you do and How they can Contact You

Here I am speaking to local businesses - if you don't answer these questions in the context of where (as in city and state) they can find you, your business is nothing more than beautiful pictures. Give them a reason to call or DM or book a consultation with you.

side rant.... I have talked about this in the past - make sure you have a PUBLIC profile - because if your business page is PRIVATE, they won't be able to interact with you.. as a business owner, you want people to be able to interact with you
