🧬 LET’S TALK HAIR CHEMISTRY: THE PROTEIN & POROSITY CONNECTION 🧬

​I had a client question recently why I am so passionate about hair health, specifically proteins and porosity.
As an educator, I always want to make sure every single one of my clients understands the "why" behind the hair on their head!

​🧽 What is Porosity?
​Think of your hair like a sponge. When we do chemical services (color, perms, etc.), we can create "micro-holes" in the hair strand.
​The Science: Our hair is made of Keratin Protein.
​The Problem: Those holes? That’s literally the absence of protein. When those holes are there, your hair becomes "High Porosity"—it may absorb color quickly, but it can’t hold it. This leads to fast fading and a frizzy appearance.

​🚫 Why I Prioritize Hair Integrity Over Bleach
​As many of you know, I avoid bleach at all costs. Bleach doesn't just target artificial color; it attacks your hair’s natural melanin and protein structure.
​The High-Lift Advantage: Whenever possible, I use high-lift color instead of bleach to achieve those beautiful blondes. If we can get you to your goal using color, your hair remains significantly healthier and stronger.
​Color Remover: When shifting tones, I use color remover because it targets the artificial molecules without the aggressive damage of lightener. It’s all about effectiveness without destruction.

​🛠️ The Fix: Matrix Instacure (and my journey as the Protein Queen)
​I have been obsessed with protein since the very beginning of my career in 2011. Before Matrix brought Instacure back to the market in 2020, I was a huge advocate for Redken’s protein lines to maintain chemically treated hair.
​Since 2020, I have preached Instacure because it is the ultimate "filler." There is a reason why my coworkers at my past workplaces always called me the Protein Queen!
​Fills the Gaps: It goes into those micro-holes created by chemicals, heat, or even UV rays.
​Rebuilds: It fills those gaps with a powerhouse blend of Keratin, Whey, and Soy proteins.
​Vitamins: It also infuses the hair with B5 Vitamins to nourish the strand from the inside out.
