We kicked off our very first Boards & Commissions Fellowship this week 🎉

Fellows got an introduction to each other and to how local boards and commissions actually work—breaking down enabling legislation, member terms, and appointment processes. We also heard from guest speakers who’ve served on boards and commissions and shared what it really looks like in action.

Excited to see this group of leaders from across South Louisiana stepping up to serve their communities!

The nonprofit work happening across Louisiana is critical; your organization doesn’t have to do it alone.

Serve Louisiana is now accepting Partner Organization Applications to host full-time AmeriCorps Members for the 2026–2027 service year.

We’re excited to share a chance for nonprofit organizations to host a full-time AmeriCorps Member from February 15–August 15.

What to know:
• Members serve 40 hours/week
• Participate in trainings alongside our full-term members
• Provide capacity-building support in one or more of the following areas:
– Volunteer Recruitment & Management
– Social Media & Technology
– Community Outreach
– New Programs & Evaluation

Cash match: $8,000 per member

Key dates:
• Applications due December 29
• Partner organizations announced January 6
• Virtual recruitment & interviewing workshop held the following week

Become a Partner | Serve Louisiana Serve Louisiana partners host a young member for an 11-month term of critical capacity-building work that benefits you and those you serve.

Camp PPD this year made a return to Lake Fausse Pointe State Park, where we haven’t been able to host the overnight training since 2016 due to flood damage. It was a fun 3 days in the woods bonding, learning, and growing together !

A federal judge has reinstated Serve Louisiana’s AmeriCorps grant. This means our members will return to service and complete the 11-month terms they committed to.

When our program was abruptly defunded this spring—along with over 1,000 others across the country—we took action. Not only to protect our members and nonprofit partners, but to uphold the civic values that have guided our work for more than 30 years.

Now, we get to keep our promise to our members and partners so they can keep theirs to the communities they serve.
