We’ve moved! We are excited to welcome you to the new home of our practice. We are enjoying our second week in our new office. We made a little video tour to share our new space with you.

Our new office is located on the corner of Prince and Harrington streets in the historic district in a white home that has been converted into office space.

We hope you all love it as much as we do. Thank you for your continued support as we step into this new adventure. This practice began with just Luke and his table going to people's homes back in October 2020 and it has grown each year steadily into a thriving business.

We couldn't have come this far without our amazing clients like you. We look forward to seeing you soon.

Course update: Getting in some reading earlier this morning for my Oncology class. This week we are studying Radiation Therapy. I’m so glad we are doing these assigned readings and tests before the live in person class next month. I feel this is providing a great foundation to build on.

This week’s learning objectives are:
💆What is radiation therapy?
💆How radiation treatment is administered.
💆Side effects of radiation treatment.
💆The stages of healing during radiation therapy.
💆Implications for massage therapy.
💆Integrative oncology care and radiation.

Definitely pushing out of my comfort zone with this course but becoming well trained in working with oncology patients and survivors is so important due to the prevalence of cancer.

How has cancer touched your life or the life of a loved one?

Take care,
Luke Norris, LMT

Spending some time reading for my Oncology Massage class each week. So far we have covered treatment considerations, research, cancer & metastasis, and an introduction to oncology massage treatments.

This week I’m learning about surgery as a treatment for cancer including how massage therapy can work with the body as it prepares for and heals from surgery. I’m also learning how to address specific surgical effects that need to be considered in planning and implementing massage treatments that are both safe and effective.

This class is taught in a hybrid format. I am currently completing reading assignments and taking weekly exams leading up to the live three day class in October. The in person portion will be more focused on hands on training and will be taught by a Massage Therapist and a Nurse Practitioner.

I look forward to sharing more with you about this work as I progress in the course and dive into this much needed work.

Take care,
Luke Norris, LMT

BAYLOR UNIVERSITY PUBLISHES LARGEST STUDY EVER ON MASSAGE THERAPY USE

July 2024

"Many people receive massage therapy and for many reasons. But according to a new study – the largest and most comprehensive ever conducted on the subject – the prevalence of visits to massage therapists is higher than one might have imagined and the reasons may be surprising."

“What our study shows is that it’s probably not helpful any longer to label massage as an ‘alternative’ therapy, with all of the marginality that the term conveys.”

“Licensed massage therapists ought to be respected as mainstream practitioners, whose profession provides a therapeutic approach not just to address pain and functional challenges but to foster wellness and overall well-being, physical and emotional.

Everyone can benefit from working with a skilled massage therapist. They’re the hidden gems in the healthcare system.” - Jeff Levin, Ph.D., M.P.H., University Professor of Epidemiology and Population Health. (Robert Rogers/Baylor University)
