The long thoracic nerve runs superficially along the side of the chest wall, traveling over the ribs and along the serratus anterior muscle. Because it lies close to the skin and fascia, it can be vulnerable to irritation, tethering, or injury when scar tissue forms along its path. This can occur with scars from breast surgery, chest tube placement, surgical drains, or trauma to the rib cage.

ARPA-H GLIDE program set to prevent and cure human disease by targeting the lymphatic system 03/11/2026

Thanks Kathleen Lisson for sharing this news!
Advances in scientific research looking at causes of chronic diseases due to underlying lymphatic disease:
"The lymphatic system doesn't just support health, it defines it, so when it is not functioning correctly the impact is significant. Many common chronic diseases, such as heart failure, diabetes, obesity, autoimmune disorders, rheumatoid arthritis, inflammatory bowel disease, glaucoma, chronic kidney, and liver disease can be driven or worsened by abnormal lymphatic function.

If you’re a bodyworker or someone personally experiencing the effects of abdominal adhesions, I highly recommend signing up for the next Abdominal Workshop with Isabel Spradlin.

I’m currently participating in Day 2–3 of her workshop alongside other therapists and some of her clients, and it’s been incredibly valuable. We’re diving deep into understanding the impact of abdominal adhesions, learning practical self-care strategies, and developing hands-on approaches to safely and effectively work with the effects of adhesions in the abdominal cavity.

Her practice, Surgery Recovery Clinic and Lymphedema, is located in Portland, Oregon.

If this work intersects with your practice or your personal healing journey, this workshop is absolutely worth your time.
