I just learned that Arabic is the 3rd most-spoken-at-home language in both Berkeley and Oakland public schools. As a music program dedicated to sharing culturally relevant music with our youth, I’m really embarrassed that I didn’t know that already. Are there any Arabic-speakers here that are familiar with children’s culture, especially Yemeni, Syrian, and Palestinian children’s culture? I’d love to have a conversation if you’re willing to share resources. I don’t like to just mine the internet or work from books, as it’s really hard to know if the material is actually culturally relevant. Feel free to DM me. Thank you!
