LOS ANGELES, CA — The first reported case of “Flurona” — a combination of influenza and coronavirus, has been detected at a Covid-19 testing site across the street from the .

A teenager boy who just returned with his family from a trip to Cabo San Lucas, Mexico, is the patient who tested positive for both the flu and Covid. He was the only relative to test positive and was described as having only mild symptoms.

“We were in contact with the mother yesterday, the child is in good spirits, and at home and doing well,” Steve Farzam of 911 COVID Testing told CBS LA.

According to the testing site run by 911 Covid Testing, they’ve witnessed a nearly 30% positivity rate among people tested in the past few days, including a few confirmed cases of the flu.

The site began testing for both after a number of people who recently tested positive for Covid were still experiencing symptoms. The use of the dual test was first reported in Israel this weekend.

Farzam says contracting Flurona should not alarm people but serve as another reminder to take the necessary safety precautions.
