We blindfolded ourselves and tried to identify all 16 of our adaptogens by taste alone. Roselle Hibiscus came up and we both nailed the flavor instantly.

One small problem. Blindfolded and writing without looking, I confidently put down “Poselle.” Forgot the R even exists apparently. Got the answer right, lost the point on a technicality of my own creation.

AnnaBlanca will not let me forget this.

Huge thanks to our host for running the whole game show and keeping us honest. We could not have done it without you.

Full episode is up on our YouTube now.

Which one do you think we both failed completely? Drop your guess below.

Most cacao you’ve seen your whole life is brown.

So when you see it in this color… it raises a fair question.

This clip is from a conversation I had with Evan Roberts (), who is an awesome guy and someone I genuinely love talking with. His podcast (the Elemental Evan podcast) one of my absolute favorites to be on, and he asked exactly the right question here.

We get into why this color exists, what it tells you about the compounds inside, and why that actually matters.

If you’re curious about cacao on a much deeper level — how it’s grown, processed, what affects its chemistry, and how it compares to other functional ingredients like cordyceps — go listen to the full episode.

Fresh cacao beans are naturally purple at the origin.

That color comes from anthocyanins, a specific class of plant compounds that do far more than “act as antioxidants.”

The old antioxidant idea was simple: eat antioxidants, neutralize free radicals, done.

But anthocyanins are more interesting than that.

They appear to work as signaling molecules- compounds that interact with pathways inside the body and help activate your own built-in defense systems. Research on anthocyanin-rich foods shows effects on pathways connected to Nrf2, AMPK, SIRT1, and FOXO - some of the same cellular stress-response and longevity pathways people talk about with hormesis, fasting, exercise, and even metformin-like metabolic signaling.

Instead of simply “adding antioxidants,” these compounds may help your body increase its own protective enzymes, including glutathione-related systems and superoxide dismutase — the internal antioxidant machinery your cells rely on every day.

That’s why the purple matters.

It’s not just color.
It’s visible plant chemistry.
And in purple cacao, that chemistry is part of what makes this product so extraordinary.

In the 1990s, a group of Chinese female runners shocked the world by breaking records that didn’t seem possible at the time.

Their coach later revealed that cordyceps was part of their regimen.

Cordyceps has traditionally been used to support endurance and stamina, and modern research is now exploring its ability to improve oxygen utilization and aerobic capacity.

When your body uses oxygen more efficiently, performance changes.

Sometimes the best product test is completely accidental.

While taking photos of our Purple Cacao Powder, AnnaBlanca spilled a little pile onto the countertop…

…and then started dipping her finger in it.

Again.

And again.

And again.

Because when cacao is this fresh, smooth, and naturally rich, it’s honestly hard to stop tasting it.

Most cacao loses its original color during fermentation and processing, turning deep brown. But fresh cacao actually begins with beautiful purple pigments from natural anthocyanins.

Our technique preserves that original color — and the incredible flavor that comes with it.

Silky. Rich. Deep cacao flavor.

So good you might just find yourself doing the same thing.

If you love cacao, this one is something special.

Cordyceps contains a fascinating compound called cordycepin that closely resembles adenosine, one of the key building blocks your body uses to produce ATP, the primary energy currency inside your cells.

ATP powers everything your body does, from muscle contraction and brain function to cellular repair and recovery. When ATP production improves, people often notice more steady energy, better endurance, and improved recovery.

This is one reason cordyceps has been used for centuries as an energy and vitality tonic in traditional Chinese medicine and why modern research is now exploring its effects on cellular energy, oxygen utilization, and performance.

Nature figured out cellular energy support long before we did.

Cordycepin is the bioactive compound in Cordyceps Militaris that does the heavy lifting — think stamina, VO2 max support, anti-fatigue, and mitochondrial function.
Most Cordyceps powders deliver 0–1 mg/g of Cordycepin.
Our Primal Power delivers 5.4 mg/g.
That’s not a small difference. That’s a different category entirely.
Pure. Potent. Bioavailable. 🦄✨

Most people talk about cordyceps…

But very few talk about the compound inside it that scientists are actually fascinated by.

It’s called cordycepin.

Cordycepin is a unique molecule found primarily in Cordyceps militaris, and researchers have been studying it for its potential effects on energy metabolism, cellular health, and how the body responds to stress.

One reason cordyceps became famous in traditional tonic herbalism was its reputation for helping people feel more energized and resilient.

Now modern research is looking closer and asking:
Could cordycepin be part of the reason why?

What makes this compound especially interesting is that its structure is very similar to adenosine, a molecule involved in many important processes in the body.

Small differences in structure can lead to surprisingly powerful biological effects.

Cordyceps has been used for centuries, but we’re only just beginning to understand the science behind what makes it so special.

Have you heard of cordycepin before, or is this the first time you’re seeing it mentioned?
