It is the only procedure of permanent hair removal which is effective on all skin and hair types. How it is performed:

The treatment area is first cleansed and a topical numbing cream is applied, if necessary. The skin is then pulled tight to allow for a very fine filament to be inserted into the hair folical in the direction of hair growth. Because the filament is so thin, there is no pain dur

ing insertion. A foot pedal is then pressed, producing a short burst of heat. This heat is delivered to the papilla. The papilla gives the hair its nourishment to grow. Once the heat is dispersed, the filament is removed, and a tweezer is used to remove the hair from the follicle. The hair should slide out with out any resistance. Once the hair has been successfully removed, a solution is applied to the treated area to provide a cooling sensation. Make-up can be applied directly affter treatment allowing you to carry on with your day. However, the treated area will feel warm and possibly tender for up to an hour after treatment. Treatment times vary according to how much hair has to be removed. Benefits of Electrolysis Treatments vs Laser Treatments:

Laser and IPL (Intense Pulse Light) treatments do not kill fine, light, and blonde hair. Reason being that the light is attracted to the pigment chromophor. Therefore, the light scatters and tries to find pigment, which can actually be freckles or melanin in the skin, leaving the hair in place and undestroyed. Electrolysis can detect hair as soon as it can be seen or felt at the surface of the skin. Therefore, there is no need to grow hair out a sixteenth inch as necessary in laser. Waxing:

Over a period of waxing sessions, the skin's elasticity begins to break down causing skin to age and sag more quickly. As with laser, it is also required that hair grow out beforing waxing can take place. Electrolysis has no effect on the epidermal skin as the filament used is inserted below the surface of the skin. Again, hair growth of at least a sixteenth of an inch is not necessary in electrolysis. Please Note:

There can be issues as to why electrolysis wouldn't be effective. If an individual is taking medication for a condition in which the side effect is hair growth, the individual will only be able to slow the hair growth down and not have permanent results. For this reason, a medical history is required prior to treatment. Another reason would be if an electrologist is not hitting the targeted papilla with the electrolysis filament, there would not be enough heat to destroy the papilla, which is what gives the hair the nourishment to grow. Therefore, if you are having a treatment and find the hair is pulling out of the follicle, not sliding out, be aware that this could actually make your hair growth increase!
