Most people slow down as they age, but Jacinto Bonilla didn’t just refuse to slow down. He sped up. He found CrossFit at 67, an age where most people begin to worry about injuries, stiffness, and declining strength. Instead, he discovered a new gear. Today, at 90 years old, he is a three-time CrossFit Games athlete and still trains with the kind of intensity that would humble people half his age.
Jacinto didn’t grow up in a gym era. He didn’t have access to personal trainers, recovery tech, massage guns, or mobility apps. What he had was grit. When he was diagnosed with prostate cancer in his 70s, training became his anchor. Instead of backing off, he structured his entire day around movement that kept him physically strong and mentally grounded. His doctors didn’t tell him to load barbells or push through heavy deadlifts. That was his decision, because he understood something simple. Strength keeps people alive.
One of the most impressive parts of Jacinto’s story is the workout he created for his 69th birthday. He named it Jacinto Storm. It includes 69 reps of clean and jerks, pullups, deadlifts, burpees, wall ball shots, kettlebell swings, kneel to stand transitions, and more. Most people would struggle to finish it in their prime. He performs it every year as a personal benchmark. Not to prove anything to anyone else, but to prove something to himself.
His training philosophy is brutally straightforward. Move every day. Stay uncomfortable. Lift weights to stay functional. Protect your joints with mobility and slow, controlled reps. Eat real food. Sleep deeply. And stay surrounded by people who want you to win. That simplicity is why his story resonates around the world. It isn’t about trying to look 25. It is about refusing to live life sitting down.
Jacinto Bonilla is living proof that discipline can rewrite the rules of aging. He shows that it’s not too late, not too hard, and not too far gone. Strength after 60 is not a miracle. It is a choice.
