Myth Busting!
One thing we hear all the time is that goats will eat anything.

Honestly? Not true at all. They’re actually pretty picky! Once, we had a friend borrow a few of our goats to eat his poison ivy. You know what, they ate everything but the poison ivy.

Goats are super curious, though. They’ll sniff, nibble, and check out just about anything new with their lips, which is probably how this myth started. But just because they investigate something doesn’t mean they’re going to eat it.

Our goats need a good, balanced diet to stay healthy. They get quality hay, pasture, browse (like leaves, brush, and weeds), grain when needed, and always fresh, clean water. There are also quite a few plants and foods that aren’t safe for them, so we’re careful about what they can get into.

Around here, they’re way more interested in stretching up to grab leaves off a branch than chewing on something like a tin can! 🌿😄

Have you heard this saying before? What’s the funniest thing you’ve seen a goat try to check out?

We’d love to hear your stories in the comments! 🐐💚

❤️ Thank You for Being Part of Our Journey ❤️

As our 9th Birthday Celebration comes to a close, we've spent a lot of time looking back at where this adventure began.

What started with two goats named Barney and Betty turned into a freezer full of goat milk, a lot of research, a few soap-making disasters, and eventually a business we never imagined we'd have.

Over the years we've changed names, changed labels, changed recipes, changed equipment, changed locations, and tried more products than we can count. Some ideas stuck around. Some didn't. But every step taught us something and helped shape Kinnaman Farms into what it is today.

Through all those changes, one thing has remained constant: YOU.

Whether you've purchased a bar of soap, stopped by a vendor event, visited an Open House, shared a post, left a review, recommended us to a friend, or simply cheered us on from the sidelines, you've helped make these last nine years possible.

Running a small business isn't always easy, but you've made it rewarding beyond anything we could have imagined.

From the bottom of our hearts, thank you for supporting our little farm, our family, and our dream.

We are truly grateful for every customer, every order, every conversation, and every friendship we've made along the way.

Here's to the next chapter of Kinnaman Farms. We can't wait to see where it takes us.

With gratitude,

❤️ Susan, David, and the Kinnaman Farms Crew

🐐 Thank you for being part of our story.

🤔 Not Every Idea Stuck Around!

Over the last nine years, we've tried our hand at a lot of different products here at Kinnaman Farms.

Some became customer favorites. Some are seasonal. And some... well... they served their purpose and taught us something before being retired. 😄

Over the years we've made:

🕯 Candles
🛁 Individual Sugar Scrub Balls
🧴 Solid Lotion Bars
🧔 Beard Oil
🌿 Bath Teas & Bath Salts
🦆 Duck Soaps

And while some of those products have gone by the wayside, others are still hanging around. Our bath fizzies have become a seasonal favorite and, speaking of fizzies, I'm getting ready to make some FUN summer-themed ones soon!

(Wink, wink... I think these might even be able to be mailed this time. 😉)

If you came to our Spring Open House, you may have noticed a couple of newer products that haven't made it to Etsy yet:

🧺 Goat Milk Laundry Soap
🌸 Fragrance Oil for diffusers, dryer balls, or refreshing old wax melts to make your house smell amazing.

And there's another new product currently in the testing phase. We're still tweaking and experimenting, but if all goes well, it won't be long before we share it with you.

One thing we've learned over the years is that innovation means trying new things. Not every idea sticks around, but every idea teaches us something and helps us grow.

Thank you for joining us on this adventure for the last nine years. We can't wait to see what the next nine bring!

🐐 Ask Lucy Anything! 🐐

Well... almost anything.

Lucy has volunteered to be Kinnaman Farms' official spokesperson today. (We suspect she accepted the job because she thought there would be extra treats involved.)

So here's your chance!

❓ Want to know something about our goats?
❓ Curious about our chickens?
❓ Wondering how we make our goat milk soap and lotion?
❓ Have questions about farm life?
❓ Want to know how we care for our animals?

Drop your questions in the comments, and we'll answer them "Straight from Lucy's Mouth!"

Nothing is off limits. If you've ever wondered about something here at Kinnaman Farms, now is the time to ask.

Just be warned... Lucy may occasionally exaggerate her importance around the farm. According to her, she personally supervises all soap making, quality control, chicken management, and snack distribution. We're not sure that's entirely accurate. 😂

So, what would you like to know?

🛒 Seven Years Ago, We Took a Leap of Faith 🛒

Seven years ago, we took a deep breath and clicked the button to open our Etsy shop. To be honest, I had no idea what would happen next.

Would anyone find us? Would anyone buy our soap? Would anyone outside of our little corner of Missouri even know who Kinnaman Farms was? I remember being excited, nervous, hopeful, and more than a little scared.

Then the first order came in. And then another. And another.

Over the years, we've packed up boxes of goat milk soap, lotion, scrubs, and other goodies and shipped them all across the country. As I was thinking about it recently, I realized something pretty amazing ... I think we've sold to every state in the United States!

Maybe not all in the same year, and I haven't gone back and counted them one by one, but over these seven years I believe Kinnaman Farms products have made their way to all 50 states. For a little farm that started with two goats named Barney and Betty and a freezer full of goat milk, that's pretty incredible.

Every order, every review, every favorite, every share, and every recommendation has helped us grow from a local farm business into one that reaches customers from coast to coast. That's something I never imagined when I clicked "Open Shop."

Thank you for taking this journey with us. ❤️ It's been quite an adventure, and we're grateful for every single one of you.

🎉 9 Years of Changes, Growth & Gratitude 🎉

As we've been looking back over the last nine years, it's amazing how much has changed at Kinnaman Farms.

When we started, we weren't even called Kinnaman Farms. We began as HeavenScent from Kinnaman Farms. Later, when I decided to make the business an LLC, we became HeavenScent from Kinnaman Farms LLC. Eventually, we created a DBA and became simply Kinnaman Farms because, let's be honest, our original name was a mouthful!

Our soap-making process has changed, too.

We started by making tiny batches of just 10 bars at a time. Today, we regularly make 40-bar batches.

Back then, we froze fresh goat milk and carefully poured lye over the frozen cubes. Today, we freeze-dry our goat milk and master-batch our lye solution so we're always ready when it's time to make soap. We still use the same amount of goat milk in our bars. This time, it's just in a powder form.

We used to weigh and pour every individual oil for every batch. Now we have a five-gallon bucket of our oil blend ready to go.

Even the way we cut soap has changed. We started with a crinkle cutter, cutting one bar at a time. These days, our large multi-bar cutter makes quick work of a whole loaf.

Our labels have gone through quite the transformation, too. We've used round labels, cigar band labels, black-and-white square labels, and now we've finally embraced COLOR!

Over the years, we've sold our products in a lot of places. At one point, I think we were in nearly ten different locations. While that was exciting, we've learned that we prefer a smaller number of carefully chosen locations where we can focus our time and energy.

Some things, though, haven't changed.

We're still a family farm.

We're still making soap by hand.

We're still learning.

We're still improving.

And we're still incredibly grateful for every customer who has supported us along the way.

Thank you for being part of these nine years of changes, growth, and gratitude. We can't wait to see what the next chapter brings.

❤️🤍💙 Happy 4th of July from Kinnaman Farms! ❤️🤍💙

While many folks are spending the day at parades, ball games, and fireworks shows, life on the farm tends to move at its own pace.

This morning started with feeding goats, checking water buckets, gathering eggs, and making sure everyone was happy before the heat of the day settled in. The goats don't know it's Independence Day, but they do know breakfast was on time, and that's what really matters around here.

One of the things we love most about farm life is that it reminds us to slow down. The goats aren't worried about schedules. The chickens aren't rushing anywhere. They simply enjoy the sunshine, a patch of green grass, and another ordinary day.

Today we'll spend time with family, enjoy some good food, and appreciate the simple blessings that surround us every day. Sometimes the best celebrations aren't the loudest ones. They're the quiet moments on the porch, the sound of animals settling in for the evening, and watching the sun go down over the pasture.

From our farm to your family, we wish you a safe, happy, and blessed Fourth of July.

❤️🤍💙 Happy Independence Day! ❤️🤍💙

🐐 How Kinnaman Farms Began... 🧼

It all started because David wanted two goats. So we brought home Barney and Betty, two brown-and-white LaMancha/Nubian goats, and settled into farm life.

We blinked. A few years went by. And suddenly we had more goat milk than David could possibly drink and a freezer packed full of milk.

Now what?

We started reading. We watched countless YouTube videos from soap makers. We bought supplies. We ran recipes through SoapCalc over and over. Finally, we got brave enough to make our very first batch of goat milk soap.

Everything was going great ... Until we poured in the fragrance oil. Instantly, our beautiful soap batter turned into what soapmakers call "soap on a stick!" Let's just say we learned the plop-and-drop method VERY quickly.

It wasn't pretty. But the next morning, something amazing happened. It was soap.

And even better...

WE HAD BUBBLES!

That first batch taught us a lot. We discovered that the fragrance oil we bought from a local hobby store was probably intended for melt-and-pour soap, not cold process soap. So back to the drawing board we went.

We researched reputable soap supply companies, ordered better ingredients, tweaked our recipe, adjusted our oils, ran everything through SoapCalc a few dozen more times, and kept learning.

And little by little ... Kinnaman Farms Soap was born.

At first, we gave away as much soap as we could. Friends, family, neighbors—anyone willing to take a bar home.

Then one day, we felt confident enough to sign up for our first vendor event at the Missouri Town Fall Festival.

Standing there with our little display of handmade soap, we had no idea where the journey would lead. But that was the day HeavenScent from Kinnaman Farms was born.

Nine years later, we're still making soap, still learning, still laughing about that first batch of soap-on-a-stick, and still grateful for every customer who has been part of the journey.

❤️ Thank you for helping our little farm dream become something we never imagined.

🐐 How It All Began at Kinnaman Farms 🐐

In 2010, we brought home two goats: Barney and Betty.

At the time, we had no plans to start a business. We simply wanted a couple of goats and a little taste of farm life to start David's Hobby Farm.

Well... Barney and Betty did what goats do, and before long we found ourselves with a freezer full of goat milk and one big question: What in the world are we going to do with all this milk?

That question sent us on a journey we never expected. We started researching, reading, watching lots and lots of YouTube videos, and learning everything we could about making goat milk soap. There were plenty of mistakes, lots of trial and error, and more than a few batches that taught us valuable lessons.

But slowly, bar by bar, Kinnaman Farms was born.

What started with two goats and a freezer full of milk has grown into a farm business that has allowed us to meet incredible people, create products we love, and share a little piece of our farm with customers across the country. We've even sold to Alaska and Hawaii!

As we celebrate our 9th Birthday, we want to thank each and every one of you for being part of our story.
